2 Introduction
This document describes how to install the ETI EVPLUS chargers with the power management
mode (dynamic load management).
Important: Please read carefully this manual before installing and using the charger.
Important: All the installation operations must be performed by qualified personnel
only.
3 Power management with external meter support
3.1 General overview
In order to perform the power management operations, a dedicated external energy meter
interface is present. The interface type is RS-485 with ModBus protocol.
Through this interface, the charger can be connected to an external energy metering device
(available as an accessory, fully configured - consult ETI for type and compatibility) which is able
to inform the charger about the total amount of power requested to the main supply network.
This means the charger knows, in every moment, the amount of power, left by the other loads,
that can be used to charge the EV battery.
The following scheme helps to understand a possible application of the power management
capability of the charger.
The meter is connected just after the main meter and measures the total power supplied to all
the loads. At the same time, it is connected to the wallbox to provide this data value. This allows
the wallbox to perform its algorithm in order to calculate dynamically the amount of power left
for the charging process.
The other loads are considered as higher priority compared to the wallbox, in this scheme. The
wallbox stops the charging process in case the its allocated power goes below 1.5kW (6 A).
