Mounting and Installation

Distances, creepage distances and clearances
US
 The creepage distances and clearances between the individual components, as well as
US
between the components and the enclosure walls, must be sufficiently dimensioned.
The recommendation/scale are the values in standards ANSI/ISA/UL 60079-7 and
US
60079-11; CSA C22.2 no. 60079-7.
US
 Check the creepage distances of the components and comply with them according to the
specifications in the respective operating instructions.
US
 Observe clearances.
US
When doing so, use the rated operational voltage for the installed terminals as a guide.
US
 Observe the distance between the cover and terminal screws of the built-in components
(with the conductor connected). It must be at least the value of the required clearances.

Connecting intrinsically safe and non-intrinsically safe electrical circuits
US
Distance provided by partitions
US
 Partition must be at least 1.5 mm/0.06 inch from the enclosure wall and installed in
US
accordance with all directions. Alternatively, maintain a distance of at least
50 mm/1.97 inch between the uncoated conductive parts of the connection terminals.
US
 Make sure that metallic partitions
US
• are at least 0.45 mm/0.02 inch thick
US
• are earthed
• are sufficiently strong and rigid
US
• have sufficient current carrying capacity.
US
 Make sure that non-metallic, insulating partitions
US
• are at least 0.9 mm/0.04 inch thick
• have an appropriate comparative tracking index (CTI)
US
• are reinforced to prevent deformation
US
 When using fuses > 4 A, implement additional design measures to prevent impermissible
US
heat-up at the terminals of the intrinsically safe circuits.
US
Distance provided by coverings
US
 All live components that are not designed with "Ex i" type of protection must be provided
with an internal covering. For open equipment, these must correspond to at least IP30
US
degree of protection.
Connecting intrinsically safe circuits
 Use only insulated cables and conductors with a test voltage of at least 500 V AC and
a minimum quality of H05.
Calculate the insulation test voltage as follows:
 Determine the rated operational voltages for intrinsically safe and non-intrinsically safe
circuits.
 Depending on the type of dissipation/insulation, select the following rated insulation
voltage value:
• "Intrinsically safe to earth": At least 500 V or double the value of the rated
operational voltage for intrinsically safe circuits.
• "Intrinsically safe to non-intrinsically safe": At least 1500 V or double the rated
operational voltage plus 1000 V.
