Operating instructions
Electronic crawler/boat speed controller
Item No. 1851824

Intended Use

The speed controller is specifically designed for the installation in crawlers or in a ship model. It can run with
a LiPo drive battery (2 - 3 cells, rated voltage 7.4 V or 11.1 V) or a NiMH / NiCd drive battery (5 - 9 cells,
rated voltage 6.0 - 10.8 V) .
For safety and compliance reasons, the product must not be converted or modified in any way. If you use the
product for other purposes than those described above, the product may be damaged. Furthermore, improp-
er use can cause risks such as short-circuits, fire, etc. Please read the operating instructions carefully and do
not discard them. Please include these operating instructions when you pass the product on to a third party.

which absolutely have to be observed.
The arrow symbol indicates specific tips and advice on operation.

Safety Instructions

Please read the operating instructions carefully and pay particular attention to the safety
instructions. We do not assume liability for any injuries/material damages resulting from
failure to observe the safety instructions and the information in these operating instruc-
tions regarding the proper use of the product. Furthermore, in such cases, the warranty/
guarantee will be null and void.
• The product is not a toy and should be kept out of the reach of children!
• Always disconnect the battery from the speed controller if you do not use it. If the speed
controller is not used for short periods, it can be deactivated via the On/Off switch.
• Always switch on the transmitter first and bring its operating lever for the motor function to the
neutral position (motor off). Only after that, connect the speed controller to the drive battery
and switch it on. When switching off proceed in the reverse order. Before switching off the
transmitter, turn off the speed controller and, if necessary, separate it from the drive battery.
• The speed controller works with a LiPo or a NiMH-Akku battery. The admissible number of
cells, etc. can be found in the chapter "Technical Data".
• Only operate the speed controller with a battery pack, but never with a power adapter.
• The speed controller can become very hot during operation. Risk of burns!
• Make sure that body parts or objects are kept away from rotating parts when handling
vehicles. Risk of injury!
• Only connect one single motor to the speed control.
• The speed controller is not suitable for the operation of three-port brushless electric motors.
• Keep the maximal possible distance between the receiver and motor when installing to mutual
interferences. Do not install the receiver's antenna cable parallel to current-carrying cables.
• Make sure cooling of the speed controller is sufficient, when operating the model. Never cover
the cooling element of the speed controller!
• Avoid blocking the drive. The currents arising from this could destroy the speed controller. Pay
attention to a smooth-running, regularly serviced drive-line.
• Check vehicle, speed controller and the connected motor on damages in regular intervals. If
you notice any damage, do not any longer operate the vehicle or the speed controller.
• Always remove the battery from the speed controller before recharging the battery.
• Handle the product with care; it can be damaged by impacts, blows or falls even from a low
height.
• Do not leave the packaging material carelessly lying around, since it could become a
dangerous plaything for children.
• If you have doubts about how the product should be operated, its safety or how to connect it,
consult a qualified technician.
• Maintenance, adjustment and repair work should only be carried out by an expert or a
specialised workshop.
• If you have any questions that are not answered in this manual, please contact our technical
service or another specialist.
Installation
• If the intend to use the product as replacement for an existing speed control, check first that the engine is
suitable for the speed control. Then remove the old speed controller from your model.
• Now install the speed controller unit into the model vehicle. Choose a location which is as far as possible
from the receiver. The control unit should also not be directly next to the motor.
• Connect the two cables of the speed controller with the motor cables; pay attention to any colour coding.
This ensures that the motor will move forward/backward as defined by the speed control.
If you later discover that the motor's direction of rotation of the motor is wrong (depending on
the drive of the vehicle), either swap the two motor cables or activate the reverse setting on your
transmitter. The motor then rotates in the other direction.
• Use for example the double-sided adhesive tape enclosed to attach the speed control.
• Install the speed control's on/off button so that it can be easily operated. Use again double-sided tape to
attach the button.
• Connect the three-pole plug of the speed controller to the corresponding channel of the receiver.
Make absolutely sure you have the correct receiver configuration (check the operation instruc-
tions for the receiver or the label on the receiver).

Red cable: Operating voltage/+
Brown/black cable: GND/Minus/-
The speed controller features BEC electronics; therefore you can't use any battery or recharge-
able battery with the receiver! Both the receiver and the steering servo connected to it will be
powered with voltage/current directly through the speed controller, from the rechargeable drive
battery.
If instead of the speed controller's BEC is used a separate receiver power supply, the middle
wire of the speed controller's three-pin receiver plug has to be interrupted.
Failure to comply with this indication will destroy the speed controller! The warranty will be void!
• Position all cables so that they cannot become entangled in rotating or moving parts of the vehicle. Use
cable ties to affix them, for example.
• Example of connecting of the speed controller (motor, servo, receiver and rechargeable drive battery are
not supplied with the speed controller):
1 Speed controller
2 On/off switch
3 Motor
4 Drive battery
5 Steering servo
6 Receiver
