10. How to use the head tracker

(only Headzone
• Headzone
Home uses unique, patented, ultrasonic
®
head tracking technology to make the virtual surround
reproduction as realistic as possible. As ultrasonic
signals always require a transmitter and receiver, the
head tracking system consists of the head tracker with
the ultrasonic transmitters mounted on the DT 880 HT
and the HR 1 head tracking receiver with the ultrasonic
receivers.
• To achieve the best performance from the head
tracking system, make sure that there is a clear line of
sight between the head tracker on the DT 880 HT and
the HR 1 head tracking receiver. Anything in between
(e.g. plants) will affect the performance of your head
tracker. This is the reason why the head tracker is
mounted on the top of your DT 880 HT, to avoid
your hair or face getting in between the ultrasonic
transmitters and receivers. The maximum distance
between head tracker and head tracking receiver is
4 metres.
• As you cannot turn your head 360°, we optimised the
head tracker for a maximum performance in the front
plane. This means the head tracker is supposed to
operate within an angle of ±60° out of the middle
axis, but in return offers an accuracy that is exact by 1°.
• To check if you are within the optimal coverage of the
head tracker, please observe the "Value" LEDs
the front panel of the HBC 1 base station, when the
"Headtracker" menu item has been selected.
• For more details about the head tracker operating
range, please refer to chapter 16. "Technical
specifications".
Note: The Headzone
®
optimised and set to "single mode" to run one single
system. If you would like to use two Headzone
systems in the same room, they must be set to a different
operation mode. If you wish to do this, please contact us
by e-mail at consumerproducts@beyerdynamic.de or
by telephone: +49 (0) 71 31 - 617-430. When using two
Headzone
®
head tracker systems at the same location
these will automatically synchronise then for proper
operation.
When using more than two adjacent ultrasonic
head tracker systems these interfere with each
other and will therefore not work correctly.
