Changing the Chiseling Position
(Vario lock)
The chisel can be locked in 12 positions. In this
manner, the optimum working position can be set
for each application.
Insert the chisel into the tool holder.
Turn the mode selector switch 3 to "Changing
the chiseling position" (Vario lock).
Turn the tool holder to the desired chiseling posi-
tion.
Allow the mode selector switch 3 to latch in the
"Chiseling" position. The tool holder is locked in
this position.
The mode selector switch 3 must always be
locked in the "Chiseling" position when chis-
eling.
Sharpening Chisels
Since good results can be achieved only with
sharp chisels, sharpen the chiseling tools regu-
larly. This prolongs the service life of the tools
and ensures good working performance.
Re-sharpening the Chiseling Tools
Sharpen chiseling tools using grinding wheels
(e. g., ceramic bonded corundum wheel) with a
steady supply of water. Recommended values for
this purpose are contained in figure C. Take care
that no annealing coloration appears on the cut-
ting edges, otherwise the hardness of the chisel-
ing tools will be impaired.
Forging and Hardening
Forging: Heat the chisel to between 850
and 1050 °C (bright red to yellow)
and forge.
Hardening: Heat the chisel to 900 °C (bright
red) and quench in oil, then an-
neal in an oven for approx. one
hour at 320 °C (annealing co-
lour = light blue).

Change the Dust Protection Cap
Have the customer service department change a
damaged dust protection cap immediately.
Service Indicator 6
When the carbon brushes are worn out, the ma-
chine switches itself off. This is indicated approx.
eight hours beforehand by the lighting or blinking
of the service indicator 6. The machine must then
be sent to customer service for maintenance (for
addresses, see Section "Service and Customer
Assistance").
Should the machine fail in spite of careful manu-
facturing and testing, its repair should be carried
out by a Bosch power tools authorized service
agent.
In all correspondence and spare parts orders,
please always include the 10-digit article number
given on the nameplate of the machine.
Recycle raw materials instead of disposing
them as waste
The machine, its accessories and packaging ma-
terials should be sorted for environmentally-
friendly recycling.
These instructions are printed on chlorine-free re-
cycled paper.
The plastic components are labeled for catego-
rized recycling.

Maintenance and Cleaning
Before any work on the machine itself, pull the
power plug.
For safe and proper working, always keep the
machine and its ventilation slots clean.
Keep the tool holder clean at all times.
