3. Operating
3.1. Fitting the die head (1)
Insert Central or Rola Automatik die head in die head receiver or adaptor, turn
until arresting lever engages (see Fig. 2 and 4).
3.1.1. Functioning of die heads
The die heads Rola Automatik open automatically when the standard lenght is
reached.
The Central die heads have to be reversed.
NOTICE
Only operate change-over switch (8) when motor is stationary!
3.1.2. Functional check of the die head Rola Automatik
Check the function of the automatic die heads when die heads are new or after
long storage: Operate tensioning stirrup a number of times, pull = open, push
= close.
3.1.3. Support bracket
The support bracket (3) serves to support the die stock against of torque in
both directions of rotation, i. e. for advance and reserve rotation of the die head,
for right- and left hand threading. Support bracket must always he used!
3.1.4. Dual purpose holder (Fig. 7)
For thread cutting and sawing, for ROLLER'S King 1¼, ROLLER'S King
2 and ROLLER'S Fox ANC.
The dual purpose holder (Fig. 7) is screwed to a workbench and serves to
support the torque which occurs when cutting threads in both directions, i.e. in
forward and reverse direction of the thread die for right and left hand threads.
The retaining pin (B) is provided to hold the ROLLER'S Fox ANC. Pipes/rods
can be cut at right angles.
3.2. Thread cutting
3.2.1. Fasten support bracket approx. 10 cm before end of pipe, by attaching it, so
that the pipe is centered in between the jaws (4) and spindle (5). Locking handle
has to be tensioned tightly. Before threading, pipe end should be slightly oiled.
Then the threader has to be attached to the pipe with the bracket between
handle (6) and motor housing (7). Adjust change-over switch (8). After having
checked the rotation (R – right hand thread or reverse for left hand thread L
– left hand thread or reverse for right hand thread), press on/off-switch (9) while
simultaneously gripping the handle (11) (Fig. 6).
3.2.2. Starting cutting
Press the electric threaders against the pipe until the die head starts to cut.
During cutting sufficient lubrication is necessary.
3.2.3. Reversing and removing the electric thread cutter
With the use of Central die heads, the thread is finished when the dies are level
with the end of the pipe. Release the rocker switch and set the changeover
switch to position L (operate the changeover switch only when the machine is
at a standstill). Now switch on the thread cutter again. The die head will retract
away from the thread. With the machine at a standstill, set the changeover
switch to position R. The retraction process does not take place with Rola die
heads.
5. Procedure by faults
DANGER
Pull out the mains plug before maintenance and repair work!
WARNING
All works marked with
are only to be carried out by electrical specialists. Pull out mains plug!
Fault
Motor does not start
Motor accepts no load
Overload disengaged
Abnormal overheating of motor
Sparking in motor
Fire ribbon in motor
All manuals and user guides at all-guides.com
Possible cause
Cable broken
Main fuse is burned out
Carbon brushes have no contact
Change-over switch not to the limit (8)
Short in the cable connection
Overloading through blunt dies
Unsuitable cuffing oil
Overloading through blunt dies
Insufficient cooling air
Very dirty collector surface
Carbon brushes fit badly due to excessive wear
Unsuitable brushes
Dirt particles spring from brushes or segments
and burn out
Rola die heads open automatically when the standard lenght is reached
(Fig. 5).
3.3. Use of the ROLLER'S Nipparo nipple holder ⅜ – 2"
In order to hold the piece of pipe with the nipple holder Nipparo, it is necessary
to spread the head of the nipple holder by turning the spindle with and corre-
sponding tool (screw driver...). This may only be made with a pipe attached.
Care has to be taken that the nipples ore not shorter than provided by the
standards (Fig. 3).
4. Maintentance
DANGER
Pull out the mains plug before maintenance and repair work! This work
may only be performed by qualified personnel.
4.1. Servicing
The electric threaders ROLLER'S King 1¼ and King 2 are maintenance free.
Because of a permanent grease lubrication the electric theaders need no
servicing.
Clean the drive unit and the quick-change die head seat with a cloth moistened
with terpentine oil from time to time. Clean heavily silted die heads, e.g. with
turpentine oil.
4.2. Changing of carbon brushes
The carbon brushes need to be checked for wear and replaced from time to
time. For this inspection loosen the 4 screws on the motor handle (11) by approx.
3 mm, pull the handle towards the rear and take off the two covers of the motor.
4.3. Changing arresting lever (Fig. 2)
Screw out both of the slotted screws alongside the arresting lever. Remove
arresting lever, spring and cylindrical pin. Remove burr from slot if necessary.
Re-assemble in reverse order. Check function!
4.4. Changing dies of Central die heads
Hold die head vertically in a vice, loosen screws, remove cover, take out dies.
Knock new dies into slots vertically from above, die 1 in slot 1 etc., bevel
downwards. The backs of the dies must be flush with the body edge. Fit cover,
tighten screws, at first only lightly. Knock dies with a copper punch or a hardwood
wedge until the die backs are in contact with the cover edge.
Careful! Do not damage teeth! Now tighten screws!
4.5. Changing dies of Rola and Rola automatik die heads
Hold die head vertically in a vice. Close tensioning stirrup, loosen screws, lift
off cover with adjusting ring and take out dies. Fit new dies, die 1 in slot 1 and
so on, die grooves upwards, bevels downwards. The backs of the dies must
be flush with she edge of the body. Fit cover with adjusting ring. Make sure
that the scale line on the edge of the cover corresponds with the scale line on
the body. Retighten screws. Check function by opening and closing the die
head a number of times.
Scale: Line on line indicates standard thread size. On the edge of the body
alongside the scale line are the marks + and –. If the cover is turned slightly
towards + the thread Ø becomes larger and towards – smaller.
Remedy
Check cable
Replace fuse
Check condition and position of carbon
brushes. Replace worn brushes
Push change-over switch to the limit (8)
Seek short and rectify.
Replace dies
Use ROLLER thread cutting oil
Engage overload button (10)
Replace dies
Clean air slots in motor.
Send in for repair.
Replace worn carbon brushes.
Use only original carbon brushes.
Use original brushes.
Send in for repair.
