Installation

Data to design the installation

Comfort Module is highly customizable to fulfil the
installation requirements. The data to define the installation
scheme are here summarized.
Heat pump choice
It's possible to connect 3 different heat pumps family to the
Comfort Module.
- Carrier 30AWH__HC inverter heat pump (or newer) series
It's the solution that grants the best performances. The
Comfort Module drives the heat pump and monitors all
its functions and sensors. It's possible to connect up to
8 heat pumps. (NOTE: Not compatible with 30AWH__H
and HB series)
- Carrier fixed speed heat pump series
The heat pump is driven by Comfort Module by a
simplified communication protocol (set it to CCN
communication at 38600 baud)
- Other heat pumps
It's possible to drive any heat pump, which can be
driven by dry contacts, with a minimal set of commands
(On/Off- Heat/Cool- Setpoint 1/2)
In all cases, the total nominal power of the heat pumps
should not exceed 20 kW.
Hydraulic data
Picture 3 shows a possible hydraulic installation schema.
This example not covers the entire potential configuration,
and, using the Variable Table, is possible to define other
hydraulic configuration.
In pic. 3:
1. Heat pump
2. Comfort Module
3. Sanitary water buffer tank
4. Manometers
5. Ball valves
6. Water filter
7. Three way valve
8. Filling system valve
9. Auto purge air valve (put in the highest positions of the
hydraulic circuit)
10. Water discharge valve (put in the lowest positions of
the hydraulic circuit)
11. User terminals
The pressure drop of Comfort Module is shown in pic. 8:
A Pressure Drop (kPa)
B Flow Rate (lt/h)
If the pump of the heat pump has not enough head
pressure, it's possible to install the Pump Kit (80HMA-9003)
The head pressure of the module with the Pump Kit
installed is shown in pic. 9.
1. Pressure drop for primary loop
A Pressure drop (kPa)
B Flow rate (lt/h)
2. Head Pressure for secondary loop
A Head pressure (kPa)
B Flow rate (lt/h)
To separate the primary loop (from heat pump to Comfort
Module) from the secondary loop (from Comfort Module
to system), it's possible to use the BPHE Kits (80HMA-
9004/9005). Hydraulic performances are shown in pic. 10:
1. Pressure drop for primary loop
A Pressure drop (kPa)
B Flow rate (lt/h)
2. Head pressure for secondary loop
A Head pressure (kPa)
B Flow rate (lt/h)
If a pump or BPHE kit is installed, it is suggested to connect the
water pump to the output 1 and configure the relevant output
(Par. 110.0 set to 1).
Make sure that the available pressure is the correct one
for the application. Insufficient pressure may cause poor
performances, while excessive water flow may cause noise
issues.
Input/Output data
The input and output are fully customizable. Pic. 12 shows
the connectors available. Using the user interface on board,
it's possible to define the used input and output.
Refer to the paragraphs "Output values" and "Input values"
for the available input and output, and "Wiring connection
diagram" paragraph for the pins identification.
The factory connected Input are:
- 80HMA-M00
Input 7: flow switch (Par. 111.6 set to 11)
- 80HMA-M03
Input 7: flow switch (Par. 111.6 set to 11)
Output 2: 3kW electric heater (Par. 110.1 set to 6)
- 80HMA-M06/T06/T09
Input 7: Flow switch (Par. 111.6 set to 11)
Output 2: 1st step of electric heaters (Par. 110.1 set to 6)
Output 3: 2st steps of electric heaters (Par 110.2 set to 7)
NOTE:
Don't change these input/output configurations.
When an output function/item is mapped, the software
acts as per that function/item is connected and
working.
Communication bus
All the devices communicate with a unique bus using only
2 wires.
In that way it's possible to connect Carrier heat pumps, user
interfaces, 2 zone kits, swimming pool kit using the Rh and
Rc connectors available in all devices.
To connect the 30AWH series heat pumps, the comunication
board 33AW-CB2 is needed.
Additional devices
Sanitary hot water valve/Pool valve
It's possible to install on the hydraulic circuit a sanitary
hot water valve and/or pool valve to switch the water to a
sanitary hot water tank or a pool heat exchanger. Use Par.
81 in the variable table to indicated if the valve is before or
after the Comfort Module.
It's suggested to connect the sanitary water valve to Output
(Par 110.5 set to 2) 6 and configure the relevant output.
However, if needed, it's possible to use different output,
provided it is properly configured.
