1.
Correct use of the rolbord
Transfer aids such as a rolbord ensure that the movements required for transfers are less burdensome for both
the careworker and the patient. It is important to use transfer aids correctly and responsibly. The correct use of a
rolbord demands a certain dexterity and skilfulness. That means that regular training and constant attention are
essential.
A rolbord is used mainly for moving from bed to bed or from bed to shower stretcher, etc.
Since the patient lies on the rolbord whilst being moved any unevenness in the transfer zone is absorbed.
2.
sideways movement to the required position
For safety's sake raise the bed rail on the side opposite where you are working. Do not pull with your arms or
shoulders, but use your own body weight as much as possible. Carry out the movements calmly. Tell the patient
what you are going to do and how he can help.
2.1.
preparation
Position the surface on which the patient is lying at the correct working height and position the surface to
which you wish to transfer the patient at the same height or slightly lower. Before carrying out the transfer it is
best to place a draw sheet under the patient.
The draw sheet is positioned in the same way as a slide sheet.
2.2.
transfer
Stand next to the bed and cross the patient's legs in the direction of
the turning movement.
