continuously connected to an anchor point to reach
his work area.
• LDAD: double kernmantle lanyard with shock
absorber.
GB
• The lanyard with shock absorber is a fall arrest system
that complies with standard EN 355. This equipment
must only be used by a single operator fitted with a
fall-arrest harness (EN 361).
• The lanyard with shock absorber must only be used
for protection of operator against falls when working
at heights.
• The lanyard with shock absorber must be secured to
an anchor point with resistance (R) of 12 kN or more,
using the connector on the lanyard end, and to the
dorsal anchor point on the fall-arrest harness using
the connector on the shock absorbing end.
• If using a double webbing lanyard with a single shock
absorber, connect the shock absorber to the fall-arrest
harness and the lanyard to the anchor point.
• If using a double webbing lanyard with two shock
absorbers, do not connect the two lanyards alongside
each other between an anchor point and the fall-arrest
harness.
• Never use a double webbing lanyard fully extended.
The lanyard's central attachment point must be
connected to the fall-arrest attachment point on the
harness.
• The maximum operating load for the lanyard with
shock absorber is 150 kg. It is vital to ensure before
use that all the components of the fall-arrest system
are compatible with this maximum load, by referring
to their respective instruction manuals. If they are not
compatible, the working load limit shall be that of the
lowest-WLL component in the fall arrest system.
• Operating temperature: -30°C to 60°C for lanyard with
shock absorber.
Horizontal use:
Lanyards with shock absorber have been tested
and approved for use in a horizontal configuration
in accordance with European spec. CNB/P/11.074
September 2015 on edge radius min. 0.5 mm.
• When used horizontally, do not allow any slack to
develop in the lanyard.
If the edge is considered to be sharp, or if there is
a sharp edge present, take all possible precautions to
prevent falling on this edge or set up cushioning on the
edge.
Before using the lanyard with shock absorber in a
horizontal position, check:
– That the shock absorber is not in contact with the
edge during use or in the event of a fall.
– Check that the fall-arrest anchor point on the lanyard
with shock absorber is located at the same height or
above the edge.
6
– That the angle formed by the lanyard in contact with
the edge, in the event of a fall, is less than 90° (figure
4).
– To reduce the risk of swinging, the movement of the
operator is limited to a maximum distance of 1.50 m of
lateral displacement perpendicular to the edge.
– That there is no obstacle under the suspension /
swing area in the event of a fall.
– That a specific rescue plan has been set up in the
event of a fall.
– That the roofs do not show any possibility of weakness
(fibro-cement, etc.). If in any doubt, install a solid path
of movement compatible with the roof.
– There are other possible cases that are not included
in this list. There are numerous other possibilities that
we cannot either list or foresee. In the event of doubt
or misunderstanding of this manual please contact
Tractel
for further information.

5. Operating principle

The lanyard with shock absorber is a fall-arrest system
within the meaning of standard EN 363.
It allows the operator to move with complete freedom
within a perimeter of up to 2 m maximum of the anchor
point. It comprises a webbing or kernmantle lanyard
with a shock absorber attached at one end.
• Lanyard fitted with a tear-type shock absorber at the
end of the lanyard:
A lanyard with a tear-type shock absorber is a
kernmantle lanyard or a webbing lanyard with a tear-
type shock absorber fitted to one end.
• The tear-type shock absorber consists of tear-type
shock-absorbing webbing protected by a sleeve.
During a fall the webbing tears, dissipating the energy.
After a fall, the lanyard is elongated and cannot be
used again. It must be logged then destroyed.
