4 Function

The device comprises an energy efficient coil spring and a polymer torsion rod. Together, these
components reduce both shear force at the socket interface during heel strike and torsional
loads during turning. Energy that is stored in the axial spring during stance phase is returned
at toe-off to give a smooth energy efficient gait. The bearing surfaces are coated with titanium
nitride, which provides a hard-wearing low friction surface for moving parts.

5 Maintenance

The user should be advised to report the following to the practitioner:
• Changes in body weight or activity level
• Changes in the performance of this device, for example:
• Unusual noises or play.
• Reduced energy return.
If this device is used for extreme activity, the maintenance level and interval should be reviewed
and if required advice and technical support sought to plan a new maintenance schedule
dependent upon the frequency and nature of the activity. This should be determined by a local
risk assessment carried out by a suitably qualified individual.
Cleaning
Use a damp cloth and mild soap to clean outside surfaces. Do not use aggressive cleansers.
The remaining instructions in this section are for practitioner use only.
Only competent personnel should carry out maintenance.
Carry out the following maintenance annually:
• Disassemble, clean, and lubricate parts as shown in dis-assembly and assembly instruction
Sections 9-12.
• Check for rotational play
• Replace the torsion rod if it's worn

6 Limitations on Use

Intended Life
A local risk assessment should be carried out based upon activity and usage.
Lifting Loads
User weight and activity is governed by the stated limits. Load carrying by the user should be
based on a local risk assessment.
Environment
Avoid exposing this device to corrosive elements
such as water, acids and other liquids. Avoid abrasive
environments such as those containing sand, as these
may promote premature wear.
Exclusively for use between -15 ˚C and 50 ˚C (5˚F and
