Only connect the device to a socket with safety contacts that is properly installed and
matches the technical data of the device. The socket must also be readily accessible
after connection so that the connection to the mains can quickly be isolated.
Do not use the device in conjunction with extension cables.
There may still be some production residues on the device. To avoid harmful effects
to your health, clean the device before you fi rst use it (see the "Care and Storage"
chapter).
1. Remove all packaging materials and any possible protective fi lms used for protection
during transportation.
2. Wipe down the device with a clean, damp cloth. Rinse off the portafi lter (8), the sieve
insert (14) and the measuring spoon (16) with a little mild detergent and clear water.
3. Set up the device in a suitable location, following the safety instructions and the no-
tices provided at the beginning of this chapter.
4. Unwind the mains cable and plug into a properly installed plug socket that is easily
accessible.
5. Before you enjoy your fi rst espresso, we recommend that you carry out a trial run to
remove any possible production residues in the water system. To do this, follow the
instructions in the "Handling and Operation" and "Preparation" chapters.
When the device is fi rst used, production-related additives (e.g. grease) may
cause a small amount of smoke and / or an odour to be produced. This is normal
and not a device defect.
6. Perform this process twice. Caution! Do not drink this espresso!
7. Clean the device and accessories (see the "Care and Storage" chapter).

Handling and Operation

PLEASE NOTE!
Do not pour milk or other liquids into the water tank. Only ever use water!
Never overfi ll the portafi lter.
CAUTION – Danger of Scalding! Never turn the steam power control to the right if
the steam nozzle is not directed at the drip tray or into a vessel.
Before you start operating the device, make sure that the water tank cover is closed
and the portafi lter is inserted correctly.
Never use the device without water in the water tank. The pump may be damaged.
Control Lamps
The device has three control lamps (9):
The espresso control lamp lights up green when the water is hot enough and the
brewing process can be started.
The operating lamp lights up red when the device is switched on.
The steam control lamp lights up orange when the correct temperature is reached
and the emission of steam can be started.
