Fuel supply

Fuel is taken from the vehicle's fuel tank or from a separate fuel tank.
7.1.
Fuel lines
To prevent air inclusions from forming in the fuel, the fuel lines should be
routed in an upward pitch, if possible. Connections within the fuel lines
must be secured by means of hose clamps unless mechanical screwed
connections are used.
When using fuel hoses, only the hoses supplied or offered by
SPHEROS are to be used. If this is not the case, the fuel hoses must,
as a minimum, comply with the requirements of DIN 73379. Fuel hoses
must neither be kinked nor twisted and must be secured by clamps
spaced approx. 25 cm apart.
Materials commonly used in the construction of vehicles may also be
used for fuel lines taking into account a suitable connection system in
each case.
Basically the following must be observed when installing fuel lines:
– lines must be protected against thermal influence
IMPORTANT!
If the heater is operated without coolant, the outer shell of the heat-
er may reach a temperature equalling the ignition temperature of
diesel fuel!
– lines must be protected against stone damage
– any dripping or evaporating fuel must neither collect nor be ig-
nited by hot components or electrical equipment
It is not permissible to install a shut-off device in the return line!
IMPORTANT!
Operating the heater with the shut-off device in the return line closed will
result in damage to the fuel pump!
Fuel may emerge. Fire hazard!
To prevent the fuel lines from sagging, freely suspended lines must be
secured.
It is not permissible to install an additional fuel pump.
See page 45 and 46 for statutory regulations.
7.1.1.
Permissible dimensions of fuel lines
– Inside diameter for suction and return lines: 6 mm (other diameters
available on request).
– Max. permissible length of each suction and return line: 10 m
– Max. permissible suction height: 2 m (with max. suction height it is
recommended that a valve be installed at the lowermost point of the
suction line)
– Max. permissible admission pressure: 0.3 bar.
7.2.
Fuel filter
Only fuel filters supplied or approved by SPHEROS should be installed
(direction of flow to be observed). To avoid malfunctions from occurring,
the filter or filter element should be replaced annually prior to the heating
season commencing.
