5 - USE

THE RADIOBEACON MUST ONLY BE USED IN EMERGENCY CASES.
THE AIRWORTHINESS REGULATION STRICTLY PROHIBITS
THE TRANSMISSION IN MANUAL MODE TO CHECK OPERATION.
The radiobeacon can be used :
in fixed mode (AF),

in portable mode (AP).

A. Operation in fixed mode
Automatic operation of the ELT96/97 does not require any manual action after preliminary setting
into service operations.
For this, the following operations are necessary :
1) Check that the ELT is properly fixed in its compartment.
2) Check that the coaxial plug of the fixed antenna is attached to the ELT "ANT" connector.
3) Check that the ELT and the remote control switches are set to "AUTO".
NOTE :
Proper operation rear is indicated in Paragraph 6.
B. Operation in fixed mode through remote control
To operate the ELT96/97 remotely, set the remote control box "MAN-AUTO" switch, located on the
instrument panel, to "MAN". The "XMIT ALERT" red warning light informs crew about an emergency
signal transmission.
C. Operation in portable mode
Perform the following operations :
1) Release the quick-opening fireproof straps to remove the ELT from its compartment and
from its optional fireproof protecting box (if installed).
2) Disconnect the fixed antenna coaxial plug from the ELT "ANT" connector.
3) Connect the flexible antenna to the ELT "ANT" connector.
4) Set the switch to "MAN/RESET".
5) Hold or install the ELT vertically, preferably in a cleared area and as high as possible.
NOTE 1 :
When used in temperatures below freezing, keep ELT inside your jacket with antenna outside
for longest operating life.
NOTE 2 :
The ELT96/97 has a test system which checks the condition of the cells and the efficiency of
the antennas.
When used in portable mode, the performance of an auto test can make the warning light
flash, this is due to the detection of a too important ROS of the flexible antenna level,
depending on the position of the antenna (hand effect).
