Decide if your flue is to exit from the top, rear or side:

Top exit

Open or lift off the stove door. Remove the cast iron top
plate (there are grub screws located in each side of the
top plate). Remove the round 'knock out' in the top of the
stove by removing the screw which fastens the cross bar
(see fig. 6). Then take the flue cover off .
Position the flue pipe into the hole, the pipe will drop in
about 50 mm (2") before resting on 2 circular-shaped lugs
on the underside of the top plate.
Take the ceramic rope provided and place this around the
flue pipe, pushing it down through the hole in the top plate.
Once in place, seal the remaining gap around the flue pipe
with fire cement. Replace the top plate and the door, if
removed.

Rear exit

Open or lift off the stove door. Remove cast iron top plate
(there are grub screws located in each side of the top plate)
and the two rear heat shields.
Using tin snips or a hack saw blade, cut out the discs in the
heat shields.
Remove the round 'knock out' in the rear of the stove. This
may be done by striking it with a hammer (or by striking a
piece of wood with a hammer) in the centre of the knock
out.
Place a 150 mm (6") diameter flue T-piece into the hole and,
ensuring the upright section is vertical, mark the position
of the slots on the casting on the interior of the
stove.Withdraw T-piece and drill 6 mm holes where marked.
Replace the heat shields.
Using nuts, bolts, washers and spacers (with a spacer
between the hole in the stove and the flue pipe), secure
the flue pipe into place.
Take the ceramic rope provided and place this around the
flue pipe, pushing it firmly through the hole. Once in place,
seal the remaining gap around the flue pipe with fire
cement. Replace the top plate. Replace the door, if removed.

Side exit

Open or lift off the stove door. Remove cast iron top plate
(there are grub screws located in each side of the top plate).
Remove the round 'knock out' in appropriate side of the
stove. This may be done by striking it with a hammer in the
centre of the knock out. Important: work from the inside of
the stove, knocking outwards.
Place a 150 mm (6") diameter flue T-piece into the hole and,
ensuring the upright section is vertical, mark the position
of the slots on the casting on the interior of the stove.
Withdraw T-piece and drill 6 mm holes where marked.
Using nuts, bolts, washers and spacers (with a spacer
between the hole in the stove and the flue pipe) secure the
flue pipe into place.
Take the ceramic rope provided and place this around the
flue pipe, pushing it firmly through the hole. Once in place,
seal the remaining gap around the flue pipe with fire
cement. Replace the top plate. Replace the door if removed.
Make a hole in the pipe. Place the stove into its final position,
and guide the flue pipe into the stove's chimney collar and
attach it. Replace the top plate. Replace the door, if removed.
Remember to tighten the screws again.
NB It is important that the joints are completely sealed,
otherwise operation of the fire may be impaired.
(NB. Ensure all possible unused flue outlets are suitably
blanked off)

Clean burn

Jøtul 3 is a clean-burning stove. I.e. the stove has an air
chamber which gives a secondary combustion to the
poisonous gases and particles. It is very important that the
system is used correctly.
Controls (Fig. 2)
The Jøtul F 3 is equipped with the following controls:
Ignition vent control.
Air vent control.

Initial lighting and regular use

• Open all air vents.
• Make a small fire to start with. Increase the size
gradually and keep the fire going for a couple of hours.
Notice!
Painted products: When lighting a fire for the first time, it is
normal for a new painted stove to emit an irritating gas,
which may smell and even give off smoke. The gas is not
poisonous, but open a window or a door near the stove to
provide additional ventilation.
Enamelled products: The first few times a new product is
used, there may be some condensation water on the
surface of the stove. To avoid permanent spots, it is
important that the condensation is dried off immediately.
Tips for making a fire for
everyday use
Place two medium-sized pieces of wood on each side of
the combustion chamber. Screw up some newspaper and
place between the wood. Then place some kindling wood
in a criss-cross pattern over it. Light the fire and continue
