CONNECTION, START-UP, CHARGING
I f the charging voltage is not set correctly or when switching to a non-matching voltage
range during the charging process, discharge or an overcharge of the connected accu-
mulator will occur depending on each configuration. In case of an overcharge, not only
the accumulator will be destroyed. There is a danger of fire and explosion as well.
N ever cover the charger and the accumulator, in order to avoid damages associated
with heat buildup. Always observe correct polarity when connecting devices.
I t is normal that accumulators with low capacity slightly warm up when charging.
1. S et the sliding switch of the plug-in charger (1) on the position "2 V / 6 V / 12 V" to the
matching nominal voltage of the accumulators being charged.
2. Connect the plug-in charger to a mains socket (100 - 240 V/AC).
3. C onnect the accumulator with the crocodile clamps (2) to the charger. Pay attention to
the correct polarity. The red crocodile clamp must be connected to the positive pole and
the black crocodile clamp to the negative pole of the accumulator. If the accumulator pack
has the correct polarity, is not defective (high-resistance/disconnected) and connected
to the mains supply, the green charging indicator lights up (3). The charging process
starts. Depending on the capacity of the connected accumulator and its condition (e.g.
accumulator is old or new; accumulator is empty or deeply discharged etc.), the charging
time will differ in lengths. A large, fully discharged accumulator with a capacity of 12 Ah,
for example, may well take several days to charge.
4. W hen the charging end voltage has been reached, the charging indicator (3) goes out
again. The charger will now supply only a low current to maintain the full charge of t the
accumulator .
5. S top charging. Remove the accumulator from the charger and pull the charger out of the
mains outlet.
SAFETY DEVICES
Depending on the switch position, the plug-in charger is limited in the output voltage to the
charging end voltage of a "2 V / 6 V / 12 V lead-acid accumulator". The initial max. charging
current of 600 mA drops continuously when it reaches the charging end voltage. When the
accumulator is fully charged only a small residual current keeps flowing (trickle charging).
Thus, if the voltage selector (2 V / 6 V / 12 V) is set correctly, a connected lead-acid accumu-
lator cannot be overloaded.
Additionally, a reverse polarity protection is integrated. If the plug-in charger is connected to
an accumulator with the poles reversed, the red LED for the polarity reversal protection (4)
lights up. Check the polarity of the accumulator and the connection cable.
If the charger is too warm, for example, due to a short-circuit, the charging current is auto-
matically reduced.
DISPOSAL
a) Product
The product must not be disposed of in the household waste.
D ispose of the product at the end of its service life in accordance with the applicable
regulatory requirements.
b) Accumulators
As the end user, you are required by law (Battery Ordinance) to return all spent accumulators;
disposal in the household waste is prohibited.
A ccumulators containing hazardous substances are labelled with the symbol shown
to indicate that disposal in household waste is forbidden. The symbols of the critical
heavy metals are: Cd=cadmium, Hg=mercury, Pb=lead (the marking can be seen
on the accumulators, e.g., underneath the refuse bin symbol shown on the left).
You can return used accumulators free of charge to any collection facility in your local author-
ity, to our stores or to any other store where accumulators are sold. You thereby fulfil your
statutory obligations and contribute to the protection of the environment.
