To increase the network availability, the
optical OSM line can be connected with an
Industrial Ethernet™ ORM (Optical Redun-
dancy Manager) to form a redundant Indu-
strial Ethernet™ backbone ring. The unas-
signed F/O ports of the ORMs are connected
for this purpose to the start and finish of the
optical line to the two F/O ports of an Indu-
strial Ethernet™ ORM.
The redundant Industrial Ethernet™ Back-
bone Ring makes it possible to realize a
rapid media redundancy even with very
large networks.
