REDUCING THE PLAYS

4-3.1 CARRIAGE-SLIDEWAYS PLAY

The play of the carriage on the slideways is
removed during testing. If some plays are cre-
ated during transport or working, they will have
to be eliminated as follows (see figure 30):
loosen nut (43) with the spanner provided and
carry out the adjustment by turning screw (44)
after loosening lock nut (45).
After the adjustment retighten lock nut (45) and
then nut (43). All of these operations must be
carried out at the same time on both carriage
groups, as these are affected by each other.

4-3.2 PILLAR-BASE PLAY

In time, as a result of continuous movement,
some play can form between the vertical pillar
and its seat. In that case refer to the figure
below and follow these steps:
- loosen nuts (46);
- unscrew grub screws (47);
- loosen lock nuts (48) and screw down, without
tightening, screws (49) until no clearance is
left in the coupling.
- make sure that the vertical movement of the
arm has not become too stiff, then tighten
nuts (48);
- rest brass grub screws (47), without locking,
until the play is eliminated, then tighten the
lock nuts.

4-3.3 ARM-PILLAR PLAY

On account the continual rotation of the arm,
some play can form in the coupling with the
vertical pillar. In that case refer to figure 32.
Loosen the two internal lock nuts (50) and
tighten the two screws (51) until the play is
eliminated.
Be careful not to cause excessive friction, as
this would subsequently hinder rotation. After
retightening the two lock nuts (50) make sure
that the arm rotates freely; if not, slightly loosen
the two screws (51).
It is now necessary to check the two grub
screws for the adjustment of locking lever. The
lever must rotate freely but with no play. If the
grains have to be manipulated, do so without
unsquaring the arm with reference to the abut-
ting end.
