SAvORy PIES
AUSSIE MEAT PIES
Makes approximately 8 pies
INGREdIENTS
1 tablespoon oil
2 onions, chopped
3lbs (1.5kg) round or chuck steak, cut into ⅔ inch
(1.5cm) cubes
1 tablespoon tomato paste
4½ cups beef stock
1 cup red wine
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons cornstarch
¼ cup water
Sea salt and cracked black pepper
METHOd
1.
Heat the oil in a saucepan over high
heat. Add the onion and cook for 2
minutes or until soft. Add the meat and
cook for 5 minutes or until sealed.

Add the tomato paste, stock, wine and
Worcestershire sauce to the pan and
simmer, uncovered, for 1 hour or until
the meat is tender.
3.
Blend the cornstarch and water to a
smooth paste. Add to the beef mixture
and stir for 4 minutes or until the
mixture has thickened and return to a
simmer. Add the salt and pepper, and
then set aside to cool.
4.
Preheat the pie maker until the 'Ready'
light illuminates.
Prepare pastry bases and tops. Use ⅓

cup of filling per pie.
6.
Close lid and cook for 8-12 minutes or
until golden brown.
7.
Remove the pies with a plastic heat
proof spatula and cool slightly.

THAI MINCE PIES
Makes approximately 4 pies
INGREdIENTS
½ lb (225g) minced steak
2 tablespoons red curry paste
1½ inch (4cm) piece fresh ginger, peeled and
grated
⅔ cup finely chopped onion
½ cup coconut cream
METHOd
1.
Combine mince, curry paste, ginger
and onion in a saucepan. Cook over
moderate heat for 5 minutes. Add
coconut cream, stir well. Allow to cool.
2.
Preheat the pie maker until the 'Ready'
light illuminates.
3.
Prepare pastry bases and tops. Use L
cup of filling per pie.
4.
Close lid and cook for 8-12 minutes or
until golden brown.
