Note:
For lifespan, obsolescence and component inspection consult the specific user instruc-
tions for each PPE component of CEclimb. Whenever doubt arises about the condition of
PPE equipment, ensure components or the entire system are immediately withdrawn from ser-
vice. Either reject them from service and render unusable, or place in quarantine and label in an
obvious manner so that they can not be used by mistake. Components may only be returned to
service following the written authorisation of a competent person. Withdraw equipment from ser-
vice if it has been used to arrest a fall.
The following section highlights some features that are important to consider when debating
lifespan, obsolescence and carrying out component inspection. It is to be regarded as addi-
tional information only. It is stressed that the specific user instructions for each PPE
component shall be observed. Users of work at height PPE must have a broad technical un-
derstanding of the tools used prior to starting work. The importance of regular inspection can
not be overestimated. Ensure that an inspection regime is in place to detect component defects,
abrasion and damage prior to any safety issues arising e.g. pre-use checks, weekly inspections,
thorough examinations (consult national legislation for recommended interval; EN365 requires a
periodic thorough examination at least every 12 months) and examination after exceptional cir-
cumstances. Ensure product markings are legible.
The Hitch Climber System comprises textile and hardware components. Each component expe-
riences a different wear pattern. In general, hardware components can be expected to have a
longer lifespan than textile components. The friction hitch cord is likely to exhibit signs of wear
the fastest. The eye termination and adjacent climbing line can also expect to exhibit accelerated
wear.

It is important to recognise that three different constructions of rope and a number of fibre types
are included in the Hitch Climber System. Knowledge of each construction and material combi-
nation is required.
