Bypass function
The unit comes with a motor operated bypass function. The bypass of the unit has basically
the function to lead the fresh outside air not through the heat exchanger, but across the
existing so-called "bypass duct" in the unit, passing by the heat exchanger directly into the
supply air areas.
The bypass is used mainly during the summer months for the so-called "night-time cooling".
During the night-time cooling the effect of the chilly outside temperatures is used in comparison
to the ambient or inside temperatures.
NOTE:
The effect of the night-time cooling depends strongly on the temperature differences between
outside air/supply air and the room air, the flow rate and the shading and/or the cooling

loads necessary thereby. The achieved cooling effects are variable thereby and never replace
an air conditioning system!
Motor operated bypass:
The KWL unit is equipped with a motor operated bypass. This can be activated e.g. with a
commercial switch. The switch is connected to a 3-pole plug, see wiring diagram SS-970.
If not activated the bypass is closed = ventilation via heat exchanger. During the activation
of the bypass the outside air/supply air passes by the heat exchanger. The bypass needs about
2 minutes for opening or closing.
Attention: The voltage level of the switch has 230 V~ !
Defrost function of heat recovery cell
To protect the heat recovery cells from freezing, the supply air fan was switch off temporary
by the measured data of the frost protection sensor.
Maintenance display
Adjustment and control is effected via differential pressure switch DDS (see wiring SS-970). The
differential pressure switch DDS is a complete kit to monitor air filter, system pressure and fan
operation. The filter state is indicated over a signal lamp (build on site). In that case the
filters must be cleaned or exchanged.
