Safety, service and maintenance
Verification of the safety requirements
In accordance with EN ISO 12100-1, EN ISO 12100-2 Safety of machinery and EN 14328 Cranes - Manually
controlled load manipulating devices. A mandatory dynamic operational test (described below) must be executed
before the VacuCobra may be put into operation. Always follow any local/national recommendations as well as the
instructions in this manual. In some countries the inspection of lifting equipment by a third party, after installation
and then on a yearly basis, is mandatory. Check the regulations in your country. Vacuum load holding devices shall
provide a holding force of at least 2 times the force necessary to lift the load in all load holding configurations and
foreseeable accelerations. TAWI vacuumlifters and suction feet/accessories are carefully calculated in accordance
with this regulation. Do not change or modify any part of the lifting system without consulting TAWI technicians.
The top swivel joint includes a safety valve. The valve automatically closes if the power fails and the load sinks to
the floor in a controlled manner. All service and maintenance instructions must be followed and documented in a
service record. The Service record must be accessible for inspection.
Installation
The installation must take place indoors in normal production premises.
The lighting in the place of installation must be adequate, during installation and operation.
The overhead crane system/jib crane must be approved for the rated maximum lifting capacity of the VacuEasylift.
During design and installation of the suspending system, it is vital to take into account relevant standards and
regulations, the load bearing capacity of the ceiling and floor structure and the attachment devices and the relevant
basic design information of the suspending system. For information on suspension (jib crane, crane system etc)
see separate manual. The overhead crane system must be installed by qualified technicians and all safety and
maintenance instructions must be followed.
The installation must be planned so that the lowest part of the VacuCobra suction foot is at least 15 cm from
ground level when fully expanded.
Motion limiters may not be used to limit the horizontal motion of the VacuCobra. The installation of a motion limiter
may cause serious damage to the VacuCobra. It may also cause involuntary disengagement of parts
resulting in
parts falling down and the risk of serious body injuries.
For detailed information on the vacuum pump, see separate manual.
A motor circuit breaker must be used.
The electrical installation must be carried out by qualified electricians.
Re-tighten all bolts within 1-2 months of installation.
Operation
The operator must be trained on the product and all instructions in the manual must be followed.
The VacuCobra must never, under any circumstances, be overloaded. Never exceed the rated maximum capacity of
the VacuCobra.
Lifting person/s is prohibited. Never walk under the load.
When in operation the operator must never place his head above the load/unit.
The lift tube must only be used in a vertical position.
Never leave a load hanging for an extended period of time. This can cause the vacuum pump to overheat.
Service/maintenance
Use only TAWI original spare parts, suction feet and accessories.
Any part of this unit which shows signs of wear or other damage must be changed immediately. The unit must not
be used before the damaged part is replaced.
Maintenance and service that cannot be carried out on the ground must be carried out on approved working
platforms only.
When service and repairs are being carried out to the VacuCobra, it must be secured to avoid any risk of the system
or parts thereof, falling down. The power must be shut down completely.
Any modifications to the product must be carried out by qualified TAWI technicians.
The vacuum pump must not be taken apart.
All damage, wear and faulty functions, which can jeopardise the safety of the VacuCobra, must immediately be
reported to the works manager who immediately must take the necessary corrective measures.
The service/maintenance staff carrying out repairs must have adequate experience and knowledge for this kind of
work. If there are any doubts regarding method, material etc., please contact the manufacturer. When replacing
broken parts, it is compulsory to use only original spare parts requested directly from the manufacturer. The use of
non-original spare parts invalidates the warranty and can cause risk of personal injury and damage to the unit.
Check the overhead crane system or jib crane in which the lift unit is suspended on a regular basis. Look for sign of
wear and fatigue in all parts. See separate maintenance instructions for these products.
