I - TAPERED ROLLER BEARINGS
If the parts are clean and properly lubricated, it is rare to find damaged bearings during removal. Therefore, one must
avoid removing them because they may be damaged by the puller.
- Case of removing of a bearing
- Abnormal wear of the bearing surface.
- Chipped bearing (due to a bad cleaning when assembled on an improper lubrication or a broken part
in the mechanism).
- Assembly precautions
- Check the cleanliness of the bearing :
- If it is a new one, unpack it just before assembly, if not, it may be cleaned with petrol or benzine and then oiled.
- When it is possible one has better results by installing the bearing parts by cooling or by heating
(in hot oil to 80° C) instead of using a press. A press must be prefered to a shock installer tool.
The bore must be carefully deburred and cleaned before assembly of the bearing.
- When a bearing has been heated for assembly, apply a small amount of grease or oil after assembly.
II - SEALS
1) O'rings : after removal, renew them.
2) Lipped seals :
All disassembled seals shall be rejected and replaced by a new seal.
Before assembly check :
- cleanliness of the parts (housing-shaft-ring).
- surface condition of the seal bearing surface:Marks of blows and scratches shall not be tolerated on the seal
bearing surface.
- quality of the ring seal :Cuts or tears shall not be accepted on the lips and the spring shall be correctly positioned
in its housing.
Lubrication :
- The bore must be carefully deburred and greased before installing the seal.
- Lubricate the entire interior surface of the ring and principally the seal lips.
- Pack the space between the 2 lips with grease.
- Do not use an excessive quantity of lubricant since liquefaction in operation and ejection outside the housing could
be mistaken for a leak.
Recommended lubricant : GRADE NLGI 2
- Penetration index at 25°C after mixing : 265 to 295 (10 mm) ( NFT 60132 or ASTM D 217).
- Droplet point : 185°C mini ( NFT 60102 or ASTM D 566).
- Base : metal soap or without soap - minéral oil.
- Additives : oxidation and corrosion inhibitors.
- Résistance to oxidation ( ASTM D 942) : pressure drop after 100 h : 0,3 à 0,4 kg/cm² maxi
- Corrosion on copper blade: level 1a ( 1b tolerated ) (NF M 07015).
- Corrosion EMCOR : level 0 (1 tolerated )
Lubricant used in first assembly : SHELL DARINA 2
Assembly
- The ring shall be engaged in its housing perpendicularly and concentrically to the shaft. Position using a specific
tool see Enclosure sheet.
- Do not damage the seal lips nor turn them over during insertion of the coupling flange.
R013R-08/07
after 400 h : 1 kg/cm² (1,4 tolerated)
