7-3. Starting mowing operation
- Mow only in daylight.
- Pay attention to the safety around the machine to
avoid injury to bystanders or damage to property.
- During operation, never allow other persons,
especially children, and animals to be in the
vicinity of the machine.
- Never attempt to do the mowing operation with-
out the discharge cover in place.
- Never attempt to operate without the drive shaft
cover in place.
- Do not put hands of feet near or under rotating
parts. Keep clear of the discharge opening at all
times.
a. Start the engine
Important:
• Depress the brake pedal firmly.
• Place the range shift lever in neutral position.
(Hydrostatic transmission)
• Place the gear shift lever in neutral position.
(Mechanical transmission)
• Turn the PTO switch is to OFF position.
• Fully depress the main clutch pedal to disen-
gage the clutch. (Mechanical transmission)

b. Shift the lift lever to the down position.
Note:
Lower the mower until the gauge wheels land
positively on the ground without fail. When the
lift lever is released in an improper position, the
mower will be hung in the air.
c. Shift the throttle lever to the intermediate speed
position between the high-speed mark and low
speed mark.
d. Turn the PTO switch to ON position to engage
the PTO.
Important:
As soon as the PTO switch is turned to ON posi-
tion, the blades start rotating and glass and peb-
bles start being ejected from the grass discharge.
So before starting the mower blades, be sure of
safety conditions around the mower.
e. Hydrostatic transmission model:
- Shift the throttle lever to the high-speed position.
- Disengage the parking pedal.
- Depress the HST forward travel pedal gradually
and the lawn mower starts traveling slowly to
begin the mowing operation.
- Select the best traveling speed for stable opera-
tion.
f. Mechanical transmission model:
- With the clutch pedal depressed, shift the gear
shift lever to the selected speed position.
- Disengage the parking pedal.
- Release the clutch pedal, and the blades start
rotating and the lawn mower starts traveling
slowly.
- Shift the throttle lever to the high position.
