6. Assembly
The parts numbers used below correspond to the
item numbers in the list of replacement parts.
Remove any grease etc. from all the parts before
assembling.

6.1 Assembling the machine

1. Place the base plate (1) in a convenient position.
2. Fasten the pillar (2) with the supplied screws (4).
3. Insert the screw gear (14) in the table holder (9).
4. Now insert the gear rack (15) in the table holder
(9) with the teeth facing the screw gear (uniform
projection).
5. Slide these parts together onto the column (2),
making sure that the gear rack sits in the teeth of
the screw gear.
6. To secure the gear rack at the top end, slip the
guide sleeve (7) onto the column and secure with
the screw (8).
7. You can now insert the table (81) and secure with
the clamping lever (13).
8. Finally, mount the complete drill head on the
column. Align the head vertically with the base
plate and secure with the screws (31).
9. Screw the 3 supplied levers (19) in the handle
holder (20).
10. Before joining the chuck (80) and the taper
mandrel (79), free all the parts of any grease.
Now insert the taper mandrel in the chuck taper
with a strong push. Then insert the taper likewise
in the drilling spindle.
11. Check the tension of the V-belt regularly before
use.
Before putting into operation, the drill has to be
fixed in a stationary position. Two fixing holes for
screws are available in the base plate for this
purpose. The screws are not supplied.
Caution: Do not overtighten the fixing screws or
the base plate may fracture.
6.2 The hinged chip guard (see Figure 7.4)
The SB 701 is supplied with a hinged chip guard,
which has to be fitted as follows:
Undo the screw on the chip guard and push the ring
onto the machine spindle as illustrated. Now align
the guard to the front and clamp tight. The height of
the guard is infinitely adjustable. Push up the guard
to change the bit, and push the guard down again
before switching the machine back on.

6.3 Preparing for use

To use the machine you will also need an extension
cable with earthing coupling. The switch is equipped
with no-volt tripping, i.e. you have to switch on the
machine again after a power failure or power
interruption and after opening the V-belt guard.
7. Operation

Please note: The V-belt housing cover is
electrically interlocked.
The various speeds are set by moving the V-belt.
1. Switch off the machine before opening the V-belt
housing.
2. Undo the wing nuts (32) and move the motor
toward the spindle.
3. Move the V-belt to the desired speed setting.
4. Re-tension the V-belt by moving the motor in the
opposite direction and re-tightening the wing nuts
(32).
