DONNING
Precautions
• Failure to adhere to these instructions may compromise comfort and/
or suspension.
• Do NOT apply lotion to the residual limb immediately prior to
donning the device. To prevent device damage, the residual limb
should be clean and dry.
• Open wounds or damaged skin should be covered with a bandage or
other appropriate covering to prevent direct contact between the
wound and device.
• Ensure the inside of the device is clean, dry, and free from any foreign
objects that may cause skin irritation.
1. Orientation:
– Transtibial device should be oriented with the logo on the front of
the residual limb (Figure 3).
– Transfemoral device requires no specific orientation.
2. Grip the top of the device from the inside, and slide it over the hand
until the inner surface is fully exposed, taking care not to damage it
with fingernails (Figure 4).
3. After exposing as much of the distal end of the device as possible,
position it against the distal end of the residual limb (Figure 5).
4. With light compression, roll the device all the way upwards onto the
limb (Figures 6 and 7), taking care not to damage it with fingernails.
Do NOT tug or pull.
5. Check that no air pockets are present.
SOCKET CONSTRUCTION GUIDELINES
Recommended socket materials to ensure long-term device function:
– All PETG materials
– Laminated sockets
– Thermoplastic inner socket materials with smooth surface
– EVA inner socket materials
The inner surface of the socket must be airtight and as smooth as
possible, irrespective of socket material.
To achieve the smoothest surface possible on the plaster positive model,
it is recommended to use fine abrasives for final smoothing, followed by
silicone spray.
Use of soft/smooth socket lining material will prolong the device sealing
function.
An expulsion valve with release function, such as the Icelock 500 series, is
essential for proper device suspension functioning. The socket valve must
be positioned as distally as possible, below the Iceross Seal-In X Seal.
Socket Donning
Precautions
• Do NOT use alcohol spray, as this will cause the low-friction coating
used on Iceross Seal-In X Seals to break down, making correct socket
donning difficult, and reducing device functionality.
• Do NOT use creams or lotions with the device, as this will cause the
Iceross Seal-In X Seal to soften and expand over time, affecting its
ability to be held in tension against the device.
