Vielen Dank, dass Sie sich für ein Qualitätsprodukt aus dem Hause Dentaurum entschieden haben.
Damit Sie dieses Produkt sicher und einfach zum größtmöglichen Nutzen für sich und die Patienten
einsetzen können, muss diese Gebrauchs an wei sung sorgfältig gelesen und beachtet werden.
In einer Gebrauchsanweisung können nicht alle Gegebenheiten einer möglichen Anwendung

2. Verarbeitungsschritte
2.1 Patientenaufklärung
Klären Sie den Patienten über die möglichen Folgen und Risiken der Therapie mit Brackets,
insbesondere beim Debonding auf.
2.2 Zahnvorbehandlung
Prüfen Sie jeden Zahn sorgfältig auf eventuell vorhandene Schmelz schädigungen, um beim
Debonding nicht von Zahnschädigungen "überrascht" zu werden.
Bitte beachten Sie für die Konditionierung der Zähne die Hersteller angaben des jeweils verwendeten
Bracketadhäsives.
2.3 Bracketadhäsivauswahl
Sie können unsere Brackets mit allen handelsüblichen Bracketadhäsiven befestigen. Wir empfehlen
CONTEC lc (REF 163-110-00), ConTec Go! (REF 163-307-00) und SmartBond (REF 163-506-00).

Bitte beachten Sie die Herstellerangaben des jeweiligen Bracketadhäsives sowie die Tabelle
Anwendungsbereich Adhäsive in unserem Orthodontie-Katalog.
2.4 Entnahme und Handhabung
Fassen Sie discovery ® sl Brackets mit einer Klemmpinzette (z. B. REF 025-277-00) mesial-distal, um
sie aus der Verpackung zu entnehmen und gemäß den folgenden Arbeitsschritten zu handhaben.
Die laserstrukturierte Basis der selbstligierenden Brackets sollte nicht mit den Fingern berührt oder
in irgendeiner Weise kontaminiert werden, da sonst die Haftung negativ beeinflusst werden könnte.
2.5 Anwendung des Bracketadhäsives
Das jeweilige Bracketadhäsiv wird gemäß den Herstellerangaben vor bereitet. Tragen Sie eine
kleine, aber für die Benetzung der gesamten Bracketbasis ausreichende Menge auf die Mitte der
Bracketbasis auf. Dies garantiert eine optimale Haftung.
2.6 Applikation und Ausrichtung der Brackets
Nach dem Aufbringen des Adhäsives platzieren Sie das discovery sl Bracket wie gewohnt auf
®
dem Zahn.
Als Orientierungshilfe zum Ausrichten dienen die Lasermarkierungen auf dem Deckel des Brackets
(Fig. 1). Die vertikale Linie markiert die Mitte des Brackets. Die horizontale Linie ist identisch mit der
Mitte des Slots. Der Slot liegt nicht in der Mitte des Brackets! Dies ist bei der Ausrichtung
des Brackets zu berücksichtigen.
Antagonistenkontakt ist aufgrund der Abrasionsgefahr und / oder dem vorzeitigen Bracketverlust
unbedingt zu vermeiden. Bringen Sie ggf. eine Bisserhöhung durch einen palatinalen Aufbiss,
z.B. mittels Bite-Bumper™ (REF 705-000-00), an. Achten Sie darauf, dass auf der Gingival- und
Okklusalseite des Brackets kein Adhäsiv in die Mechanik des Verschlusses (Bracketdeckel) gelangt.
Dies könnte die Funktion des Deckels behindern oder zerstören. Vor dem Aushärten ist das
ausgetretene überschüssige Adhäsiv vollständig zu entfernen. Dies ist von besonderer Bedeutung
für ein einfaches Debonding am Ende der Behandlung.
2.7 Funktionsweise der Verschlussmechanik / Ligieren der Bögen
Der Slot des selbstligierenden Brackets discovery ® sl wird mit einem Deckel verschlossen.
Alle Deckel, sowohl im Ober- als auch im Unterkiefer, werden von okklusal nach gingival
geöffnet (Fig. 2). Dazu ist unbedingt das sl-Instrument (REF 023-276-00) zu verwenden (Fig. 3).
Bevor der Bogen eingesetzt werden kann, sind die Deckel zu öffnen. Das spitze Ende des
sl-Instrumentes in die Aussparung des Deckels zwischen den okklusalen Bracketflügeln
einführen (Fig. 4a und 4b). Mit dem sl-Instrument den Deckel nach vestibulär gingival durch eine
leichte Hebelbewegung öffnen (Fig. 5). Der Deckel springt auf.
Die discovery ® sl Brackets verfügen über eine Mechanik (CapSafe TM ), die den Deckel während des
Einsetzens des Bogens offen hält. Zur Aktivierung von CapSafe TM drückt man den Deckel nach der
spontanen Öffnungsbewegung mit dem Finger oder dem sl-Instrument in gingivale Richtung, bis
ein deutlicher Widerstand zu spüren ist (Fig. 6). Der Deckel ist nun sicher in der Öffnungsposition
fixiert (Fig. 7).
Den Bogen in den Slot einlegen (Fig. 8), dies ggf. unter Zuhilfenahme des gabelförmigen Arbeits-
endes des sl-Instrumentes. Mit dem Finger oder dem sl-Instrument den Deckel von gingival nach
okklusal schließen (Fig. 9). Der Deckel muss spürbar einrasten. Dies gewährleistet den sicheren
Verschluss des Slots (Fig. 10).
Um Lippen- und Wangenirritationen während des Bogenwechsels zu vermeiden, empfehlen wir die
Verwendung von Lippenretraktoren (REF 075-600-00 oder 075-601-00).
2.8 Bracket Debonding
Die ausgezeichneten Hafteigenschaften von discovery sl Brackets bedürfen im Rahmen des
®
Debondings besonderer Beachtung: Das Debonding der discovery ® sl Brackets können Sie mit
einer Weingart-Zange (z. B. REF 003-120-00) vornehmen. Fassen Sie die Brackets mesial-distal
an den Flügeln. Drehen Sie das Bracket dann mit einer kurzen Links- oder Rechtsdrehung ohne
Zug vom Zahn. Für den Seitenzahnbereich eignet sich besonders gut die abgewinkelte Bracket-
Abnehmezange (REF 004-347-00), mit der Sie das Bracket zwischen Bracketbasis und Adhäsiv
abscheren.
3. Hinweise für den Behandler / Patienten
Bitte beachten Sie, dass z.B. beim Bogenwechsel die Zähne nicht mit geöffneten Bracket-

Deckeln geputzt werden dürfen! Dies führt zum Verbiegen der grazilen Deckel. Dadurch wird die
Funktion des Verschlussmechanismus zerstört und die Klappe kann nicht mehr optimal schließen.
Dieses Produkt enthält Nickel und Chrom. Patienten, bei denen eine Allergie gegen diese

Metalle besteht, sollten mit diesem Produkt nicht behandelt werden. Weitere Risiken und
Nebenwirkungen auf das Material von discovery sl sind nicht bekannt.

5. Sicherheitshinweise
Risiken und Nebenwirkungen (allergische Reaktion) auf discovery ® sl Brackets sind nicht bekannt.

Sollten auf einen oder mehrere der Inhaltsstoffe allergische Reaktionen bekannt sein, darf das

Produkt nicht angewendet werden.
Da der Werkstoff 1.4542 der selbstligierenden discovery ® sl Brackets zu den gering magnetisier-

baren Metallen gehört, empfehlen wir die Abnahme der Brackets vor der MRT-Untersuchung.
6. Lagerung und Haltbarkeit
discovery ® sl Brackets in der geschlossenen Verpackung lagern.
7. Hinweise für Produkte zum einmaligen Gebrauch
Das Produkt ist nur zur einmaligen Verwendung vorgesehen. Die Wiederaufbereitung eines einmal
benutzten Produktes (Recycling) sowie dessen erneute Anwendung am Patienten ist nicht zulässig.
Aufgrund der mechanischen Beanspruchungen während der Behandlung und beim Debonding
können weder Maßhaltigkeit noch Hafteigenschaften der Brackets nach dem Recyclingprozess
gewährleistet werden.
8. Sonstige Hinweise
Die technischen Informationen wie Torque, Angulation, Größe etc. entnehmen Sie bitte dem

2. Processing
2.1 Informing the patient
Inform the patient about the possible consequences and risks of bracket treatment, in particular
during debonding.
2.2 Conditioning teeth
Check each tooth thoroughly for any existing damage to the enamel to avoid damaging the tooth
during debonding.
Follow the instructions from the bracket adhesive manufacturer for conditioning the teeth.
2.3 Selecting bracket adhesive
Our brackets can be bonded using all commercially available bracket adhesives. We recommend
CONTEC lc (REF 163-110-00), ConTec Go! (REF 163-307-00) and SmartBond
Please follow the instructions of the bracket adhesive manufacturer and observe the table
„Adhesives – areas of application" in our Orthodontics Catalog.
2.4 Removing and handling
Grip the discovery sl brackets mesially-distally using clamping tweezers (e.g. REF 025-277-00) to
®
remove them from the packaging and handle according to the following steps. The laser-structured
base of the self-ligating brackets should not be touched with your fingers or contaminated in any
way, as this could otherwise have a detrimental effect on the bond.
2.5 Applying bracket adhesive
Prepare the bracket adhesive according to the manufacturer's instructions. Apply a small amount of
adhesive to the center of the bracket base, enough to wet the entire bracket base. This guarantees
an optimum bond.
2.6 Placing and aligning brackets
After applying the adhesive, place the discovery ® sl bracket in the usual way onto the tooth.
Laser-markings on the lid of the bracket can help orientation when placing the bracket (Fig. 1). The
vertical line marks the middle of the bracket. The horizontal line is identical to the middle of the slot.
The slot is not in the middle of the bracket! This should be taken into account when
aligning the bracket.
Avoid contact with the occluding teeth due to the risk of abrasion and / or premature bracket loss.
If necessary, a raised bite can be used e.g. with Bite-Bumper™ (REF 705-000-00). Ensure that no
adhesive material enters the closing mechanism (bracket lid) on the gingival and occlusal side of
the bracket, as this could restrict or destroy the functionality of the lid. Remove completely any
excess adhesive before it has cured. This is particularly important to ensure easy debonding at the
end of treatment.
2.7 Using the closure mechanism / ligating the archwires
The slot of the self-ligating bracket discovery sl is closed with a lid. All lids, both in the maxilla
®
and in the mandible, are opened from occlusal to gingival (Fig. 2). Always use the sl-instrument
(REF 023-276-00) to open the brackets (Fig. 3).
The lids should be opened for the archwire to be inserted. Insert the pointed end of the sl-instrument
into the opening on the lid between the occlusal bracket tie wings (Fig. 4a and 4b). Open the lid
using the sl-instrument, levering it slightly towards vestibular / gingival (Fig. 5). The lid opens.
discovery ® sl brackets have a mechanism (CapSafe TM ) which holds the lid open while the archwire
is inserted. To activate the CapSafe , press the opened lid using either a finger or the sl-instrument
TM
towards the gingiva until a resistance is felt (Fig. 6). The lid is now fixed securely in open position
(Fig. 7).
Insert the archwire into the slot (Fig. 8) using the fork-shaped end of the sl-instrument if necessary.
Close the lid from gingival to occlusal using either a finger or the sl-instrument (Fig. 9). The lid must
be felt to click into place. This ensures the slot is closed securely (Fig. 10).
We recommend you use a lip retractor (REF 075-600-00 or 075-601-00) to avoid irritation to the
lips or cheeks while the archwire is being changed.
2.8 Bracket debonding
The excellent bonding properties of discovery sl brackets require special attention during
®
debonding: for the debonding of discovery sl brackets, we recommend using Weingart pliers
®
(e.g. REF 003-120-00). Grasp the bracket from mesial-distal on the tie wings. Turn the bracket
briefly to the right or the left, without pulling, to remove it from the tooth. The angled bracket
removing pliers (REF 004-347-00) are particularly suitable for the posterior region as they shear the
bracket off between the bracket base and the adhesive.
3. Information for the doctor / patient
Please note that the teeth should not be cleaned while the archwire is being changed as long

as the bracket lids are open. This would cause distortion to the delicate lid. This would in turn
destroy the function of the closure mechanism and it would no longer be possible to close the lid.
This product contains nickel and chrome. If the patient has a known allergy to one of the metals,

this product should not be used. Further risks or side effects of the material of discovery
brackets are not known.

7. Information for single use products
The product is intended for single use only. Reconditioning of a product that has already been used
(recycling) and its reuse on a patient is not permitted.
Due to the mechanical stress during treatment and debonding, neither the dimensions nor the
bonding strength can be guaranteed should the brackets be recycled.
