INSTALLING THE SANDING OR POLISHING
BACKER PAD
See Figure 6, page 11.
The tool comes with a 2" backer pad for sanding and a 3"
backer pad for polishing.
 Remove the battery pack from the tool.
 Depress the spindle lock button.
 Insert the 5/16"-24 threaded shaft of the backer pad into
the front of the tool.
 Rotate the threaded shaft clockwise and tighten securely.
CAUTION:
To prevent damage to the threaded shaft of the backer
pad or spindle lock, always allow motor to come to a
complete stop before engaging spindle lock.
NOTE: Do not run the tool with spindle lock engaged.
PREPARE THE SURFACE FOR POLISHING
For best results, always read and follow the polish manu-
facturer's instructions. Prepare the surface as directed for
appropriate applications and proper use.
Never apply cleaners directly onto surface to be polished.
Apply to a clean cloth then use the cloth to clean the surface.
Do not use any type of abrasive cleanser as it may damage
or scratch the surface.
ATTACHING THE WOOL OR FOAM PADS
See Figure 7, page 11.
WARNING:
To avoid injury, always remove the battery pack from the
polisher before attaching polishing pads.
This tool includes a 3 in. wool pad, 3 in. black foam finishing
pad, and 3 in. yellow foam correcting pad. The wool pad
has a high level of cut and should be used for compounding
and removing deep scratches. The black foam finishing pad
has a mid to low level of cut and should be used to polish
and shine the work surface. The yellow pad is a correcting
pad that has a medium level of cut. Use the yellow pad to
remove light scratches and clean the paint.
To attach the polishing pad to the backer pad, align the pad
to the 3 in. backer pad and press the hook and loop together
to securely hold the pad in place. Attach the polishing pad
to the 3 in. polishing backer pad.

APPLYING POLISH TO THE WOOL OR FOAM
PADS
Most polishes are either in paste or liquid form. Before using
any polish, read all directions on appropriate applications
and proper use.
NOTE: Be careful not to use too much polish at one time. If
the pad becomes saturated, it will not last as long.
APPLYING POLISH TO SURFACE
See Figures 8 - 10, page 11.
WARNING:
To prevent loss of control and possible serious personal
injury, always operate the tool with both hands, keeping
one hand on the side handle.
NOTE: Make sure the lock-off button is in the locked position
before placing the polisher on any surface.
While holding the polisher firmly against the surface, slide
the lock-off button to the unlocked position and squeeze
the switch trigger. Always start and stop the polisher on or
against the surface being polished.
Begin by polishing larger flat surfaces. Use a broad sweep-
ing motion in a criss-cross pattern as shown. Do not press
down on the surface with the polisher. Let the action of the
polisher and polishing pad do the work.
CAUTION:
Do not hold the tool in one spot for too long as it could po-
tentially damage the paint and/or surface being polished.
Once flat surfaces have been covered, polish curved surfaces
such as car doors and quarter panels. Use small circular
motions.
After applying polish to the entire surface, turn polisher/
sander off. Wait until the pad stops rotating before lifting
the polisher/sander from the surface. Remove the battery
pack from the polisher.
For hard to reach areas, such as the underside of bumpers
or side mirrors, apply polish by hand.
SELECTING SANDING DISCS
Selecting the correct size grit and type sanding disc is an
extremely important step in achieving a high quality sanded
finish. Aluminum oxide, silicon carbide, and other synthetic
abrasives are best for power sanding. Natural abrasives,
such as flint and garnet are too soft for use in power sanding.
