Phenomena Specific
to CCD Image
Sensors
The following phenomena that may appear
in images are specific to CCD (Charge
Coupled Device) image sensors. They do not
indicate malfunctions.
White flecks
Although the CCD image sensors are
produced with high-precision technologies,
fine white flecks may be generated on the
screen in rare cases, caused by cosmic rays,
etc.
This is related to the principle of CCD image
sensors and is not a malfunction.
The white flecks especially tend to be seen
in the following cases:
• when operating at a high environmental
temperature
• when you have raised the gain (sensitivity)
• when using the slow shutter
Vertical smear
When an extremely bright object, such as a
strong spotlight or flashlight, is being shot,
vertical tails may be produced on the screen,
or the image may be distorted.
Monitor
screen
Aliasing
When fine patterns, stripes, or lines are shot,
they may appear jagged or flicker.

About a Memory
Stick
On Memory Sticks
"Memory Stick" is a new compact, portable
and versatile IC recording medium with a
data capacity that exceeds a floppy disk.
"Memory Stick" is a specially designed for
exchanging and sharing digital data among
"Memory Stick" compatible products.
Because it is removable, "Memory Stick"
can also be used for external data storage.
Types of Memory Sticks
There are two types of "Memory Sticks": the
"MagicGate Memory Stick" that is equipped
with the MagicGate copyright protection
technology, and the general "Memory
Stick." You can use both types of "Memory
Stick" with this unit. However, because this
unit does not support the MagicGate
standards, data recorded with this unit is not
subject to MagicGate copyright protection.
On MagicGate
MagicGate is copyright protection
technology that uses encryption technology.
To protect Memory Stick data
A "Memory Stick" is equipped with a write-
protect tab. You can record or erase data, or
format the "Memory Stick" when you set the
write-protect tab to the left position. If you
set the write-protect tab to LOCK (right
position), you can read data but cannot
record data. When you use a "Memory
Stick" with this unit to read the recorded
images, we recommend that you set the
write-protect tab to LOCK.
