V. RESPECTING FOOD HYGIENE
RULES
Buying fresh produce
Do not buy fresh produce during your lunchtime, unless you have a
freezer at work to keep it cold during the afternoon. If you leave fresh
produce in your car or at room temperature for too long, the temperature
rises to a level where dangerous bacteria can develop.
Keep fresh produce together when you are in the supermarket and on
your journey home. If you keep all fresh produce together, it will stay
fresh for longer.
Use a bag for fresh produce
You can buy special insulated cool bags in most supermarkets and other
shops. They keep produce fresh for longer, but they should only be used
to bring fresh produce home and not for storage. Unpack bags as soon
as you get home and always put fresh produce away before other
products.
Close the door!
To prevent cold air from escaping, open the door as little as possible.
When you get home with your shopping, sort the food before opening
the freezer door.
Buying frozen food
When you buy frozen food, read the storage guidelines on the packet.
Check the temperature of the freezer
Check the temperature of the frozen food cabinet in the shop where you
buy your frozen foods. It should be below –18°C.
Choose your products carefully
Check that the packaging of frozen products is in perfect condition.
