4.5 Preparation and drying

To create undercuts that improve the connection between the cast and the jacket, carefully bevel
the bottom (base) edges of the refractory cast using a dry dental trimmer.
Dry the cast in a drying chamber or oven pre-heated to approximately 200 °C for about
40 minutes. Allow the cast to slowly cool to room temperature on the bench. Correctly dried
casts exhibit a light colour and absorb bonding agents well.
4.6 Hardening / Preparation
When using silicone duplicating moulds, Optivest SR refractory casts do not have to be hardened.
A bonding agent can be used to achieve better adhesion of the wax model on the cast. Make sure
the bonding agent does not form a layer of its own on the surface of the cast, to avoid the formation
of casting fins, filling up of retentive recession and compromising fit. Check the consistency of the
bonding agent from time to time.
If the refractory cast was produced using duplicating gel, hardening by immersion in a hardener
bath is recommended. Make sure to follow the pertinent instructions for these products. Old
hardener can be viscose and touch and form an unwanted layer on the model.
No expansion liquid must be brushed onto the cast (or applied by immersion) on the surface of the
cast after drying. Do not start modellation until the model has cooled down to hand temperature!
