1 Purpose
Experimentation on the propagation of infrared signals in air and in transparent mediums
The light transmitter provides an infrared signal of about hundred nanometers of spectral
bandwidth, centred at the wavelength of 850 nm. The hatched area on figure 5 corresponds
to the spectral emissivity of the light transmitter. The optical fibre of 1 mm diameter
transmits this signal without much absorption. The photoreceptor has a wide spectral
sensitivity ranging from near UV (300 nm) to infrared (1100 nm), with a maximum at 820
nm (figure 5).
