TROUBLESHOOTING
PROBLEM
Burner does not light
after pilot is lit.
Delayed ignition of
burner.
Burner
backfiring
during combustion.
Yellow flame during
burner combustion.
Slight
smoke
or
odor
during
initial
operation.
Heater
produces
a
whistling noise when
burner is lit.
Heater
produces
a
clicking/ticking noise
just after burner is lit
or shut off.
Heater
produces
unwanted odors.
Heater shuts off in
use.
Gas odor even when
control knob is in OFF
position.
• SHUT OFF GAS SUPPLY.
• DO NOT TRY TO LIGHT ANY APPLIANCE
• DO NOT TOUCH ANY ELECTRICAL SWITCH, DO NOT USE ANY PHONE IN YOUR BUILDING.
• IMMEDIATELY CALL YOUR GAS SUPPLIER FROM A NEIGHBOR'S PHONE. FOLLOW THE GAS
SUPPLIER'S INSTRUCTIONS.
• IF YOU CANNOT REACH YOUR GAS SUPPLIER, CALL THE FIRE DEPARTMENT.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
Burner orifice is clogged.
Burner orifice diameter is too
small.
Inlet gas pressure is too low.
Manifold pressure is too low.
Burner or pilot orifice is clogged.
Burner
orifice
is
clogged
damaged.
Gas regulator defective.
Inlet pipe is blocked.
Incorrect connections of pipes.
Gas regulator defective.
Residues
from
manufacturing
processes.
Turning control knob to HI position
when burner is cold.
Air in gas line.
Dirty or partially clogged burner
orifice.
Metal expanding while heating or
contracting while cooling.
Gas leak (see WARNING statement
below).
Low line pressure.
Pilot is partially clogged.
Gas leak. See WARNING statement
below.
Control valve defective.
WARNING IF YOU SMELL GAS:
REMEDY
Clean burner orifice or replace burner orifice.
Replace burner orifice.
Contact local Gas Company.
Contact local Gas Company.
Clean burner or pilot orifice or replace it.
or
Clean burner orifice or replace it.
Replace gas regulator.
Remove the blockage.
Connect pipes according to installation
instructions.
Replace gas regulator.
Problem will stop after a while of operation.
Turn control knob to LO position and let
warm up for a minute.
Operate burner until air is removed from line.
Have gas line checked by local Gas Company.
Clean burner orifice or replace it.
This is common with most heaters. If noise
is excessive, contact qualified service person.
Locate and correct all leaks (see Checking
Gas Connections section)
Contact local Gas Company.
Clean pilot.
