g. Always use saw blades of the right
size with the correct mounting hole
(e.g. star-shaped or round). Saw
blades that do not fit the parts mounted
on the saw will not rotate smoothly and
result in a loss of control.
h. Never use damaged or incorrect saw
blade washers or screws. The saw
blade washers and screws were spe-
cially designed for your saw to deliver
top performance and operating safety.

Kickback – causes and relevant safety
instructions
Kickback is a sudden reaction occurring
when a saw blade catches, jams or is incor-
rectly aligned causing it to lift out of the
work piece uncontrollably and move
towards the operator;
– if the saw blade catches or jams in a
narrowing saw gap, it will be locked and
the motor power kicks the saw back
towards the operator;
– if the saw blade cants or is improperly
aligned in the saw gap, the teeth of the
rear saw blade edge could catch in the
surface of the work piece causing the
saw blade to move out of the saw gap
and the saw to kick back towards the
operator.
Kickback is the result of incorrect or
improper use of the saw. It can be prevented
by taking suitable precautions like those
described below.
a. Hold the saw firmly with both hands
and position your arms so that you are
able to control any kickback forces.
Always keep to the side of the saw
blade and never bring the saw blade in
line with your body. In the event of a
kickback, the circular saw could jerk
backwards; however, the operator can
control the kickback forces by taking
suitable precautions.
b. If the saw blade catches or you sus-
pend work, switch the saw off and
hold it steady in the work piece until
the saw blade has come to a complete
stop. Never attempt to take the saw
out of the work piece or to pull it back-

wards while the saw blade is moving.
Otherwise kickback may result. Deter-
mine and rectify the cause that led to
the saw blade getting caught.
c. If you would like to restart a saw in a
work piece, centre the saw blade in the
saw gap and ensure that the saw teeth
are not caught in the work piece. If the
saw blade is caught, it could jerk out of
the work piece or kick back when the
saw is restarted.
d. Support large boards to reduce the
risk of kickback if the saw blade gets
caught. Large boards could bend under
their own weight. Boards must be sup-
ported on both sides both near the saw
gap and along the edge.
e. Do not use any dull or damaged saw
blades. Saw blades with dull or incor-
rectly aligned teeth lead to increased
friction, the saw blade catching and
kickback due to the excessively narrow
saw gap.
f. Before cutting, tighten the cutting
depth and cutting angle adjustments.
If the settings change while cutting, the
saw blade could catch and kick back.
g. Be particularly careful when cutting
into existing walls or other areas
where you do not have a complete
overview. The saw blade cutting into
the material could jam in hidden objects
and kick back.
h. Never position your hand near rotating
fitted tools. The fitted tool may move
over your hand during kickback.
i. Avoid the area in front of and behind
the rotating cutting disc. The kickback
will direct the power tool in the direction
opposite the movement of the grinding
wheel at the point where it jams.
j. Be very cautious when working around
corners, sharp edges etc. Ensure that
the fitted tools do not kick back from
the work piece and catch in it. The
rotating fitted tool is at risk of catching
around corners, sharp edges or in the
event of impacts. This will result in a
loss of control or kickback.
