range of IP addresses assigned to devices can be limited by the user.

between different devices. In general, a router is a gateway by default.
A service providing name resolution for matching host names (domain
names) with IP addresses via a server.
Basically a doorway, where an IP address is like a street address. Assigning
port numbers allows for increased security.
The PC, software, etc. that handle HTTP communication with devices
outside the network as a proxy, mostly for browsing websites, etc.
Instead of communicating directly outside the network, connection is
relayed outside via a proxy server.
A communication device for connecting a network and devices. Wired
and wireless types are available.
An access point identifier when using a wireless LAN.
An encryption key when connecting to a wireless LAN. Setting an
encryption key that corresponds to an SSID allows connection to an
access point.
A system that blocks unauthorized access from outside a network, and
prevents attack and intrusion into a network within a local area.
