4 Maintenance

4 Maintenance
Follow the safety instructions in Chapter 2!
Before starting cleaning or maintenance work:
— End operation (! Chapter 3.3 ‐ page 20)!
— Let the machine cool down!
BEF 320EX:
When work is being done on the machine
(setup, maintenance, service, repair, cleaning,
etc.), the power supply of the machine has to be
disconnected from the mains (pull power plug)!
The operating and maintenance personnel
responsible for the machine must ensure that no
one can enter the machine's danger zone during
operation or maintenance work.
Maintenance work may only be performed by
trained specialists! They must be familiar with
the dangers associated with such work, protect
themselves and avoid danger!
The machine needs to be secured against tip­
ping during maintenance work!
If necessary, make use of braces.
Keep in mind the weight of the machine and the
machine parts! Secure dismantled parts against
falling.
After cleaning and maintenance work, check the
safety equipment for completeness and func­
tionality.

4.1 Regular maintenance

Maintenance daily or after 10 hours of operation
Cleaning the machine:
F
Do not use compressed air, high‐pressure
cleaners or solvents to clean the machine!
a.
Clean the machine and tools dry with a
cloth or suitable agents.
The manufacturer recommends employing
dust extraction with an appropriate filter.
b.
If necessary, restart the machine (! Chap­
ter 3.1 ‐ page19).
Check milling discs, multi‐disc rods, spacers
F
and bearing bushes and replace if necessary
(! Chapter 4.2 ‐ page 22).
Check the level of the hydraulic oil in the oil
F
tank [7, Fig. A] and add more if necessary.
BEF 320VX:
F

Check fuel levels of petrol and oil and refill if
necessary.
Check and clean the air filter and replace if
necessary.
Maintenance to perform weekly or after every 50
hours of operation
Check the milling rotor / re‐equip / exchange (!
F
Chapter 4.2 ‐ page 22).
Check the seal strips and dust protection brushes
F
[12, Fig. B/E/I] and replace if necessary.
Clean the connection to the dust extraction
F
[21, Fig. B] and the chassis [22, Fig. B] from
milling residues.
Lubricating the machine:
F
The milling rotor and milling discs should not be
lubricated!
a.
Clean machine parts that rub against each
other (mainly levers and bearings in Fig. C)
and apply acid‐free industrial grease as
needed.
b.
Check greased parts for proper function.
Check / Tighten / Replace the mill belt:
F
1.
Unscrew the drive cover [10, Fig. A] (3 screws)
and remove.
2.
Loosen the engine base screws [42, Fig. H]
(4 pcs.) (do not remove).
3.
Replace mill belt if defective [39, Fig. H].
4.
Loosen the lock nut [43, Fig. H].
5.
Tension the mill belt with the tensioning screw
[44, Fig. H] until it can be depressed approx.
1 cm by applying moderate pressure with your
thumb.
6.
Tighten the screws of the belt tensioner.
7.
Mount the drive cover.
8.
Check whether the milling rotor turns under load
(! Chapter 3.2 ‐ page 19).
9.
If the belt tension is not yet sufficient, repeat
steps 1. ... 8..
Check / Tighten / Replace the pump belt:
F
1.
Unscrew the drive cover [10, Fig. A] (3 screws)
and remove.
2.
Loosen the screws of the belt ten­
sioner [41, Fig. H] (do not remove).
3.
Replace the defective pump belt if neces­
sary [40, Fig. H].
