Installation and Wiring
20.1
P
● Make sure to cut off all phases of the power supply externally before
attempting installation or wiring work.
Failure to do so may cause electric shock or damage to the product.
● Use the product within the general environment specifications described
in the User's Manual (Hardware) of the CPU module used.
Never use the product in areas with excessive dust, oily smoke, con-
ductive dusts, corrosive gas (salt air, Cl
gas, vibration or impacts, or expose it to high temperature, condensa-
tion, or rain and wind.
If the product is used in such conditions, electric shock, fire, malfunc-
tions, deterioration or damage may occur.
E
● Do not touch the conductive parts of the product directly.
Doing so may cause device failures or malfunctions.
● When drilling screw holes or wiring, make sure cutting or wire debris
Power supply connector
does not enter the ventilation slits.
Failure to do so may cause fire, equipment failures or malfunctions.

● Install the product on a flat surface.
2:
(Black)
If the mounting surface is rough, undue force will be applied to the PC
board, thereby causing nonconformities.
● Install the product securely using a DIN rail.
● Connect the input/output cables securely to their designated connectors.
Loose connections may cause malfunctions.
● Turn off the power to the PLC before attaching or detaching the follow-
ing devices. Failure to do so may cause device failures or malfunctions.
– Peripheral devices, expansion board, and expansion adapter
– Extension modules, bus conversion module, and battery
Mounting
The connector type I/O modules of the MELSEC FX5 series can be mounted on
a DIN rail.
Preparation for installation
Connect the extension modules described in this manual to other modules
before mounting these modules on a DIN rail.
The procedure for connecting a module (extension connector type) is shown
with an example of how to connect an I/O module to a FX5UC CPU module.
Slide the hook for coupling the exten-
sion module ("A" in the right figure) of
the existing module (right side).
Remove the extension connector
cover for subsequent modules ("B"
in the right figure).
Connect the extension module as shown in the figure below.
Slide the hook for coupling the extension module ("A" in the figure below)
of the existing module to fix the extension module ("C" in the figure below).

Wiring
P
● Caused by a damaged output module an output may not be set cor-
rectly. Design external circuits and mechanisms to ensure safe opera-
tions of the machine in such a case.
● An external power supply failure or a malfunction of the PLC may
result in undefined conditions. Provide a safety circuit on the outside
of the PLC (i. e. emergency stop circuit, a protection circuit, interlock
circuit etc.) to ensure safety.
E
● Make sure to observe the following precautions in order to prevent
any damage to the machinery or accidents due to malfunction of the
PLC caused by abnormal data written to the PLC due to the effects of
noise.
– Do not bundle AC supply lines together with DC supply lines.
A
– Do not lay signal cables close to the main circuit, high-voltage power
lines, or load lines. Otherwise effects of noise or surge induction are
likely to take place. Keep a safe distance of more than 100 mm from
B
the above when wiring.
● The temperature rating of the cable should be 80 °C or more.
● Simultaneously turn on and off the power supplies of the CPU module
and extension modules.
