Manual
cache programme activate their write cache function depending on the state of the
"removable" attribute of the respective drive driver. If drive management through
separate drivers is desired, this is rendered possible by repeatedly addressing
DISKDRV.SYS with different parameters.
Example:
DEVICE= ...\DISKDRV.SYS /MF installation of hard disks
DEVICE= ...\DISKDRV.SYS /MR installation of removable disks
When installing removable disks, a certain amount of drive letters can be
reserved for every removable disk by specifying the parameter "/R". If the "/R"
parameter is not specified, a drive letter is assigned. The installation message of
DISKDRV.SYS involves displaying the identified disk drives together with the drive
letters assigned to them on the screen.

3. SCSIFMT Disk Drive Preparation

Principally, all hard disks have to be partitioned and formatted before they can
be operated. If you have a SCSI hard disk managed by the BIOS, you can use the DOS
programmes FDISK and FORMAT as usual.
The hard disk drives which are operated driver-based must be prepared
accordingly using the SCSIFMT program, as the FDISK program can not be used here.
Removable disk drives can also be formatted using the FORMAT command
under DOS, which creates a data structure similar to that of a floppy disk, the so-called
"super floppy format". This is necessary, for instance, for data exchange with media
which are OS/2 compatible. Under DOS and Windows, the two formats (partitioned
or super floppy format) can be used, the DISKDRV.SYS driver identifies automatically,
even in the case of a media change, the respective structure of the respective data
medium.
To execute SCSIFMT no additional drivers are necessary, as the program
completely contains the adaptation to the SCSI host adapter. It is usually possible to
directly address SCSIFMT without further parameters. In special cases, when
operating for example several SCSI host adapters in one computer, the following
parameters can be given to SCSIFMT.
SCSIFMT is operated via so-called illuminated bar menus which make it possible
even for untrained users to handle the program without any problems. The different
functions are selected by the cursor keys "arrow up" and "arrow down" and addressed
by pressing ENTER. The ESC key generally re-activates the previous selection.
If an error occurs while executing the programme, the screen will display a
window with detailed information about the nature of the error. Error messages
invariably require confirmation by pressing ENTER.
