Typical Structure of the CONFIG.SYS File

.
DEVICE= ... \DC29160.SYS
DEVICE= ... \DISKDRV.SYS
DEVICE= ... \CDROM.SYS
.
The DC29160.SYS driver automatically identifies which SCSI drives are already
managed by the BIOS and installs a "RAMBIOS" function for them to speed up access.
For device drivers these drives are not addressable; possible commands by device
drivers will lead to the "Timeout-Error" message. This prevents, for instance, that a
BIOS operated hard disk gets installed under a further drive letter by a driver for disk
drives.
2. Driver-based Installation of Disk Drives
Driver-based installation is particularly suited for removable disk drives as it is
the only way of completely supporting a media change.
Fundamentally, the disk drive to be installed must first be partitioned using the
SCSIFMT programme or, in the case of removable disk drives, be prepared for
operation under DOS using the FORMAT command. The description of SCSIFMT is
dealt with in a separate chapter of this manual. After that, the drive can start operating
by installing the driver.
Automatic driver installation is activated by addressing the DOSINST. installation
program. Insert your Dawicontrol driver disk into your floppy drive and enter
A:\dos\dosinst at the prompt. The menu which then appears gives you the opportunity
of selecting the drivers to be installed. To initialise a removable disk drive, please
select the menu items SCSI CAM/ASPI Driver and Disk Driver. Then activate "Install"
before hitting the return key. The further installation is carried out automatically; finally
rebooting the system is necessary in order for the drivers to be loaded.
