Cleaning, Maintenance, Disinfection and Sterilization

4.1

Preparation for Cleaning

The operator or the person processing the product is responsible for the result of the cleaning,
disinfection and sterilization performed on the instruments used.
Make sure that
only product-specific and sufficiently validated cleaning, disinfection and sterilization
methods are used,
the devices used (disinfector, sterilizer) are maintained and checked in regular intervals
and that validated parameters are used for every cycle,
national rules and regulations as well as the hygiene regulations of the physician's practice
or the hospital are observed (especially regarding the deactivation of prions).
When choosing the cleaning agent, make sure that
it is suitable for the cleaning of instruments made of metal and synthetic materials,
a suitable disinfection agent with proven efficacy is used (e. g. VAH / DGHM or FDA-
approved or with CE label) and that it is compatible with the cleaning agent used, and
that the chemicals used are compatible with the instruments (see chapter 4.2.2 "Material
Resistance", page 27).
Disconnect bipolar forceps from connecting cable and clean thoroughly under running water or
with an aldehyde-free disinfectant directly after use (within a maximum of 2 hours) to avoid
that particles and dried secretions stick to the instruments. Blood and tissue residue should not
dry on the instruments.
Due to the better results regarding efficacy and repeatability, machine cleaning should be
preferred to manual cleaning.
