Alarm Check
The audible and visual alarm will activate should the airflow reach the
manufacturer's minimum design flow (MMDF).
To check for correct functioning of the alarms, place a hand over the
outlet of the Powered Air Turbo. The audible and visual alarm should
activate and the bottom LED on the filter icon will flash red.
Note: High environmental noise levels or use of hearing protection may
interfere with the user hearing the audible alarms. Users may need to
check for the visual alarms more frequently in high noise environments.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
DONNING
1. Select an approved breathing tube (Please see TR-302E+ Powered
Air Turbo reference leaflet for list of 3M approved breathing tubes) and
connect top end to headtop assembly. Inspect the gasket located on the
bayonet end of the breathing tube (i.e. the end that connects to the
Powered Air Turbo) for signs of wear or damage. If the seal is worn or
damaged, the breathing tube should be replaced.
2. Adjust and buckle the waist belt with the Powered Air Turbo fitted
comfortably around your waist (see note below for fitting backpack).
Insert the bottom end of the breathing tube into the outlet of the Powered
Air Turbo and turn the end of the breathing tube to ensure it is fitted
firmly.
3. Adjust the Headtop as outlined in the appropriate User Instruction.
4. Switch on the Powered Air Trubo, fit the Headtop and ensure at least
minimum airflow is achieved. (The audible alarm will sound if below
minimum airflow - please see fault finding).
Note: For fitting the Powered Air Turbo to the optional backpack, see Fig
8. Check that it is firmly held in place by the attached fastening. If
necessary, adjust backpack straps for a comfortable fit. Note: To fit the
optional braces (Fig 9), slide the removable buckle portion and bar
sliders off the belt. Slide two strap hangers (Fig 10) onto the belt so that
they are in the position shown in Fig 11. Slide one bar slider onto the belt
(Fig 12), slide the belt through the Powered Air Turbo (Fig 13) and slide
another bar slider onto the belt. Position the Powered Air Turbo and bar
sliders as shown in Fig 14. Slide the other two strap hangers and the last
bar slider onto the belt (Fig 15). Reattach the buckle portion (Fig 16). Fit
the belt around the waist and position hangers and sliders as shown in
Fig 17. Clip the front portion of the braces as shown in Fig 17. Attach the
rear braces as shown in Fig 18. Adjust the braces for a comfortable fit.
IN USE
The Powered Air Turbo will always start at the standard flow setting
when switched on.
With the unit switched on, press the on/off button twice to change the
airflow setting to the high flow. Press twice again to return to standard
flow. Note: To conserve battery power when in the high airflow setting,
the turbo will automatically step down to the standard airflow setting
when the filter loading reaches approximately 90% or the battery
duration remaining is less than 4 hours. This can be over-ridden by the
user by pressing on/off button twice to move the airflow back to the
higher flow.
If no buttons are pressed after 30 seconds of use, the display will enter a
sleep-mode. Press the on/off button momentarily to exit this mode.

Use in the 'power-off' state is not normal, little or no protection is
provided and a build up of carbon dioxide and depletion of oxygen
within the Headtop may occur, vacate the contaminated area
immediately.
Take care to prevent the breathing tube from becoming looped around
protruding objects.
If during use, the airflow into the Headtop stops and the alarm sounds,
vacate the contaminated area immediately and investigate the cause
(please see fault finding).
The 'in-use' life of the product will vary with frequency and conditions of
use.
In everyday use, it is recommended that the product is discarded after
approximately 5 years service, provided the product is stored and
maintained as stated below. Some extreme conditions may result in
deterioration over a shorter period.
Note: Do not expose battery pack to temperatures above 54°C. The
Powered Air Turbo battery alarm will activate if battery pack temperature
reaches 60°C while the Powered Air Turbo is in use.
^ Do not use the batteries outside of the recommended temperature
limits.
DOFFING
^ Do not remove the headtop or turn off the air supply until you
have vacated the contaminated area.
1. Lift the Headtop off the head.
2. Switch off the Powered Air Turbo by pressing the power button for 2
seconds.
3. Unbuckle the waist belt.
Note: When removing the filter, hold the Powered Air Turbo facing
downwards (cover towards the ground) to help minimise the potential for
contamination of the motor/fan during cover and filter removal. (See Fig
19A, 19B and 19C). Note: The Powered Air Turbo should already be
switched off before removing the filter.
For long-term storage of filters, remove the filter and seal in a closed
container. 3M does not recommend the filter be left in place in the
Powered Air Turbo as damage may occur to the filter gasket.
If required, the breathing tube can be removed. However, the Powered
Air Turbo should be turned upside down so that the outlet faces the
ground (see Fig 20) to help minimise the potential for contamination of
the outlet.
^ Do not replace the filter, pre-filter, or spark arrestor with the
Powered Air Turbo running.
NOTE If the respirator has been used in an area that has caused it
to become contaminated with a substance requiring special
decontamination procedures it should be placed in a suitable
container and sealed until it can be decontaminated or discarded.
CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
Use a clean cloth dampened with a mild solution of water and liquid
household soap. Do not use petrol, chlorinated degreasing fluids (such
as trichloroethylene), organic solvents or abrasive cleaning agents to
clean any part of the equipment. To disinfect use wipes as detailed in
Reference Leaflet.
^ Keep filter seal clean
^ Never attempt to clean filters by knocking or blowing out accumulated
material. The spark arrestor can be cleaned using water and liquid
household soap. Completely dry the spark arrestor with a clean cloth. If it
cannot be cleaned or is damaged then it should be replaced.
^ Do not immerse the battery pack or battery charger into any type of
liquid.
^ Do not wipe the electrical contacts.
MAINTENANCE
Maintenance, servicing and repair must only be carried out by properly
trained personnel.
^ Use of unapproved parts or unauthorised modification could
result in danger to life or health and can invalidate any warranty. If
disposal of parts is required this should be undertaken in accordance
with local health and safety and environmental regulations.
^ Dispose of lithium ion battery packs according to local environmental
regulations.
^ Do not dispose of in standard waste bins, in a fire or send for
incineration.
