Respiratory Protective devices.
The Powered Air Turbo offers a high capacity battery pack and a range
of particulate filter options (some including different nuisance odour
performance). The Powered Air Turbo can be manually set to provide
two levels of airflow (standard or high). It also incorporates an electronic
control unit which provides an audible and visual warning of low battery
and/or low airflow into the headtop. The turbo has a filter indicator to
provide information on particulate filter loading and a battery status
indicator to provide battery charge information.

PREPARATION FOR USE
Respirator systems are intended to help reduce exposures to certain
contaminants and should always be handled with care and fully
inspected prior to use.
Check apparatus is complete, undamaged and correctly assembled. Any
damaged or defective parts must be replaced with original 3M spare
parts before use.
Undertake pre-use checks on headtop assembly as outlined in the
appropriate user instruction.
Select an approved belt and fit to the Powered Air Turbo.
Battery
Select an approved battery. (Please see TR-302E+ Powered Air Turbo
Reference Leaflet for list of 3M approved batteries).
Inspect battery casing, hinge, latch and electrical contact pins on battery
and replace battery if damaged.
The battery should be charged immediately after receipt as indicated on
the product packaging (see Fig 1).
For battery charging instructions, please refer to User Instructions
provided with battery charging kit.
The battery charge can be determined by pressing on the indicator as
shown in Fig 2. (1 bar = less than 20%, 5 bars = 80 to 100%).
An identical battery indicator is also on the Powered Air Turbo display.
Fit the battery as shown in Fig 3. The latch should engage with an
audible click. Gently pull the battery pack to confirm it is locked in place.
Filters
Select an approved filter. (Please see TR-302E+ Powered Air Turbo
Reference Leaflet for list of 3M approved filters).
^ Inspect filter before first installation or reinstallation and immediately
replace if damaged.
Remove the filter cover by pressing the latch on the Powered Air Turbo
and lifting the cover off as shown in Fig 4. Place the filters and optional
pre-filters and/or spark arrestor into the filter cover as shown in Fig 5
(where 1 = Filter cover; 2 = Spark arrestor; 3 = Prefilter; and 4 =
Filter). The filter label should be visible in the filter cover window. Spark
arrestor should be used in all situations where the Powered Air Turbo
may be exposed to sparks, molten metal or other hot particulates.
^ Always properly install the filter into the Powered Air Turbo.
Re-install the filter cover into the Powered Air Turbo ensuring the latch
fully engages.
Airflow Check
The Powered Air Turbo is pre-calibrated to ensure the required airflow is
provided. It also compensates for changes in air density, which is
affected by elevation (height above sea level) and air temperature.
Before use, undertake air flow check using the air flow indicator tube as
shown in Fig 6. Allow the Powered Air Turbo to run for 1 minute before
inserting the airflow check tube into the outlet. Wait for an additional
minute to allow the airflow to stabilise. With the airflow check tube in the
vertical position, ensure that the bottom of the floating ball rests at, or
above, the minimum flow mark for the 'letter' representing your 'zone'
(see Fig 6). To determine your zone, you need to know the elevation and
temperature for the environment where you are conducting the airflow
check. Find the zone where your elevation and temperature intersect on
the chart shown in Fig 7.
