brake line. Compared with V-brakes,
disc brakes are even easier to control,
work better during high speeds and
the rims remain free from damage
longer. The result is effi cient, stable,
user-friendly, reliable brake power. In
order to prevent unnecessary wear, it
is important to clean the disc regularly
with, for example, a dry cloth. See your
Batavus dealer for adjustment of these
brakes.
B) The mechanical disc brake (29) is a
variant which works with a brake cable

and a standard V-brake brake grip. It
is advisable to consult your Batavus
dealer for adjustment of these brakes.
I M P O R T A N T
• Never disassemble or cut through the
lines of a hydraulic disc brake! The fl uid
(usually oil) in the system is under high

pressure.
• Check regularly that the disc is not
buckled. This is detrimental to the me-
chanism. In the event of doubt please
consult your Batavus dealer.

ROLLER BRAKES

These brakes require little maintenance
and are optimally sealed against dust
and water. If the brake grips can be
squeezed in more than half of the dis-
tance between the grip and the hand-
lebars, the cable must be tightened.
This can be carried out with the cable
adjusting screw on the brake grip (30).

Roller brakes have brake power limiters
for extra safety. When the roller brake
is squeezed, it is possible that the bicy-
cle still moves forwards or backwards
a short distance. It may feel as though
the bearing is not correctly adjusted.
However, your bicycle is probably
perfectly alright because play is normal
in this type of brake construction; it
prevents accidents wherever possible. If
you have any doubts, however, we ad-
vise you to consult your Batavus dealer.

THE BATAVUS ERGO GRIP BRAKE GRIP

Batavus has also developed ergonomi-
cally-shaped brake (hand) grips (46).
The special shape means that they lie
beautifully in your hand. The result is
less pain in hands and joints and even
smoother braking.
