Use
When the set maximum current is exceeded the Shore Power Protector will give an audible
alarm in the first instance.
If the overload is too great or persists, the Vetus Shore Power Protector disconnects
automatically and the text 'Disconnected' is displayed. You must then switch off a few
appliances after which you can switch the Vetus Shore Power Protector on again using
the RESET key (2).
What should you do if the external circuit breaker in the harbour (thus not the earth leakage
switch) has disconnected first after all? Check first of all that you have not caused a short
circuit in your own installation which could have caused this to happen.
Then check that the set limit is not higher than that of the external circuit breaker. Select a
B characteristic if you had set a C characteristic. (See above under point A2). Also check
that there are not more moorings connected to the same circuit breaker. If all of this is
alright then the external fuse probably does not conform to the EN 60898 standard. The
best thing to do then is to set the Shore Power Protector to a slightly lower value.
4 Installation
The Vetus Shore Power Protector has three parts:
- a cabinet containing the 230 V switching unit
- a control panel containing the display
- an 8-pole connecting cable with RJ45 connectors of the type used in computer net-
works.
The control panel can be positioned almost anywhere in your yacht or ship where it is easy
to access (for example, near the steering position) and the cabinet with the switching unit
should be positioned as close as possible to the network input position.
Before continuing first disconnect the 230 Volt cable from the yacht harbour!
Cabinet with switching unit
- Disconnect the cable to the fuses/fuse box at the point where the mains power supply
enters your vessel.
-
Fit a new cable, size at least 3x1.5 mm
connections are made correctly:
• brown to live, mostly marked with a P for Phase
• blue to neutral, mostly marked with an N for neutral
• yellow/green to earth, mostly marked with Earth or the sign:
