1 Introduction
The Vetus Shore Power Protector has been designed for use in vessels with an external
connection for the shore 230 V power supply.
When connecting to an external 230 V power supply, for example in a yacht harbour, it is
important not to exceed the maximum permitted power because otherwise the automatic
circuit breaker will disconnect so that you will be without power.
In most cases the harbour master will then be required to switch on again, but he may not
always be available or prepared to come immediately and sometime a fine may even be
charged for the service.
The Vetus Shore Power Protector prevents this by warning you in time if there is a small
and brief overload and by disconnecting when there is a major overload even before the
harbour circuit breaker can do so.
Unlike competitive products you can continue to use appliances that take a high starting
or switching current without disadvantageous consequences when using the Vetus Shore
Power Protector.
The Vetus Shore Power Protector is intended for permanent building in on your yacht or
ship.
The Vetus Shore Power is not a safety circuit breaker and may never replace
the prescribed or necessary fuse.
We request you to read the explanation given below carefully before use in order to gain
a good understanding of operation and to prevent misunderstandings.
2 Brief explanation of the operation of the Vetus Shore Power
Protector
The maximum current that you may use in the harbour is set simply in a few seconds using
two keys (UP and DOWN).
The Vetus Shore Power Protector then measures precisely how much current you are actu-
ally using and warns if this becomes more than is permitted for a short period
If you really do take too much current (see the full explanation later) then the Shore Power
Protector will switch off before the circuit breaker reacts. You can then switch off some
appliances and reset the Vetus Shore Power Protector.
So you never have to be afraid any more that the harbour circuit breaker will disconnect
you because of overloading and leave you without power!
