7. Commissioning

Check function of the safety devi-
ce carefully before putting the ma-
chine into operation.
The check should be performed
by a person, who is familiar with
the content of the mounting and
wiring instructions as well as with
the functions of the machine and
safety device.
The overall safety of the machine
is dependent upon how the enab-
ling path(s) of the AZR/SRB safety
modules (are) connected to the
safety circuit. The whole safety
control circuit should be designed
according to the requirements of
the relevant safety categories in
EN 954-1.

7.1. Testing

7.1.1. Function of the
safety modules
Switch on the power supply to the
safety module. The green LEDs on
the safety module indicate that
the output relays are energised,
which allows the machine to start
(if fault see troubleshooting, chap-
ter 6.3.).

8. Inspections

In addition to the commissioning
check before putting the machine
into operation, we also recom-
mend the following inspections:
• a simple daily functional test of
the safety device
• a complete inspection every six
months of all components of the
safety device (wear, damage,
manipulation) and mechanical
components (overall stopping
performance) by a safety trained
person.

7.1.2. Function of tactile
mats, active edge
profiles (and edge
covers)
Please test each active compo-
nent of the safety device (mat,
active edge profiles and if used
edge covers) by stepping on
them. This will deactivate the re-
lays and cause the LEDs to turn
off.

7.1.3. Safety distance

Review the correct safety distance
between the first edge of mat and
the nearest danger point (see
section 2.2.).
7.1.4. Environmental
conditions
Check that environmental con-
ditions are suitable for the use of
the tactile mat (e.g. no chemicals
are present, for which the mat is
not designed for).

7.1.5. Active edge profiles

Make sure that the active edge
profiles are fastened securely and
do not provide a trip hazard.
The tactile mat is maintenance
free. When properly used it will
provided effective safeguarding. If
a replacement is required, it will
be recognised during daily or six
month inspection. For the name or
identification number of the mat
see mat surface.
7.1.6. Bypassing of tactile
mats
Make sure that no one can bypass
or step over the tactile mats.
Make sure that no one can stand
in the danger area without being
detected.

7.1.7. Loss of power

After switching off the power sup-
ply to the safety module the ma-
chine must stop automatically. An
automatic machine restart must
be prevented with a restart inter-
lock in the machine contol circuit.
If any faults are noticed which ef-
fect safety, the machine must be
put out of operation and the safety
function repaired.
