Slave Function
The DÖRR DAF-44 Wi can be released wirelessly by an external flash source (e.g. from another
flash unit). Press the mode button until it displays S 0. The photo sensor is active now. Place
the flash at a desired location. The light sensitive sensor now reacts on light reflections
caused by the camera's incorporated flash or another flash and releases the DAF-44 Wi
simultaneously. The TTL auto flash mode is not active in slave mode. The flash will fire
automatically with power set in manual flash mode. Through manual mode, you can reduce the
flash power down ratio to 1/32. Modern TTL flash systems are operating with pre-flashes fired
in short sequences before the main flash will fire. To ensure that the DÖRR DAF-44 Wi will fire
in slave mode simultaneously with the main flash, the pre-flashes must either be switched off.
Note: The slave sensor is located at the front flash housing below the AF red light cover. The
flash should be directed toward the external flash source for slave mode photography. The
sensor ranges app. 10m depending on the ambient light.
Flash Power in Slave Mode
The flash power selected in manual flash mode will be used. So, when using the slave mode,
select the flash power in manual flash mode.
Note: The power saving function will not work in slave mode.
LC Display
The LCD provides the following readings:
• Auto or manual zoom reflector positioning (24 / 28 / 35 / 50 / 70 / 85 / 105mm)
• Selected lens aperture
• Exposure control indicator (TTL OK)
• Flash range in m and ft
• Display of TTL, E-TTL as well as iTTL and BL (depends on camera, please read camera

• Displays manually selected power ratio M (full, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16 and 1/32)
• OFF for Standby Mode
Firmware Update
To ensure that your flashgun will be compatible with a future camera of the same brand, the
DAF-44 Wi features a socket for data transfer. The DÖRR service agent can arrange for a
firmware update via this socket.
