Setting the system function

This section describes the basic procedure for setting up
the BML. For details on parameters and setting options,
see the following sections:
– BML SL1-ALZ0-U1ZZ-_U1L-... see Section 6.
– BML SL1-ALZ1-UE/MZZ-_U1L-... see Section 7.
– BML SL1-ALZ1-B/S_ZZ-ABA_-..., see Section 8.
The tape is produced with several of the same
code segments. After seperation a random
piece is delivered. This means it can happen
that the null point is located in the center of the
measuring range. If the sensor then travels over
the null point, an overrun will occur.
Recommendation: Set at least the offset.

Checking the system function

Check all functions as follows after assembling the position
measuring system or exchanging the sensor head or
magnetic tape:
1. Switch on the sensor head supply voltage.
2. Check that the count direction of all interfaces
corresponds with the direction of travel, and correct
the controller parameterization if necessary.
3. Move the sensor head along the entire measuring
length and check whether the measurement value
within the measuring range is plausible. No error is
allowed to occur in the data set or to be indicated by
the LED. Troubleshooting steps are described in
section 13.2 on page 48.

Operating notes

– Check and record the function of the linear head
system and all associated components on a regular
basis.
– If there are malfunctions in the linear head system, take
it out of service and secure it against unauthorized
operation (see also Troubleshooting on page 47).
– Secure the system against unauthorized use.
