The Wilo-RAIN3 controller ensures:
▪ The start/stop of the pump according to the supplied water pressure and volume flow.
▪ The rainwater storage tank level sensor.
▪ The three-way valve, set by default on rainwater mode that switches the supply to the
city main water in the break-tank if the rainwater level in the rainwater storage tank is
too low.
▪ Overflow detection in the break-tank.
▪ The automatic switch to city main water mode for a duration of 3 minutes (adjustable
value in menu 5.56, see chapter 6.4.1) to renew the water in the break-tank if not used
for 3 consecutive weeks (adjustable value in menu 5.55) even if the rainwater level in
the rainwater storage tank is high.
Additional inputs and outputs are available to control optional devices or communica-
tion:
▪ Wastewater backflow detection in the rainwater storage tank.
▪ An immersed rainwater storage tank pump (230V, max. 3A) could be connected to the
controller (Fig.6, rep. 22) to overcome possible suction problems if the maximum suc-
tion head of the main pump is exceeded (e.g. rainwater storage tank too deep, pipe
length too high). The zero-flow delivery head of the pump should not exceed 1 bar. The
rainwater storage tank pump is switched on when the "rainwater" mode is activated
automatically or manually. Wilo offers pumps for such cases. Please contact your in-
staller.
▪ A potential-free contact triggers an optional external alarm. (Fig.6, rep. 18) OR indic-
ates a failure of a main building management switchboard.
NOTICE
The rainwater storage tank pump, the external alarm and backflow sensor are not
supplied with the system.
Overflow detection in the break-tank
Wilo-RAIN3 is equipped with an overflow sensor in the break-tank. In case of leakage
or if the float valve is not completely closed, the overflow failure is indicated and the
system switches the supply to the city main water until the water level in the break-
tank decreases. If the water level in the break-tank remains critical the acoustic alarm is
activated.
This overflow failure indication is cleared when the water level is nominal and by an ac-
tion on the touchscreen. If the failure remains active, the systems should be checked
and the break-tank removed for inspection (see chapter 7.3).
Wilo-RAIN3 is equipped with a LCD touchscreen to monitor the rainwater utilisation
and set the system parameters according to the needs.
