1. Separate the earth wire from the battery.
The earth wire has to be separated from the battery before the work begins to prevent short
circuits during assembly and for safety reasons (fire risk)!!!
2. Assembling the line set and the socket
Fold out luggage compartment floor cover, remove the hat tray, remove the tail plate covering.
Remove the cover of the vehicle's individual leadthrough on the left near the centre of the tail
plate. If there is no leadthrough or it is currently occupied, drill a hole of 40 mm diameter here in a
suitable place. Remove burrs from the bore holes, treat with an anticorrosive agent and allow to
dry.
Lay the cable ends through this leadthrough from the luggage compartment to the outside and
then further towards the socket retaining plate, adjusting the cable length to the socket.
Seal the vehicle leadthrough with the leadthrough bushing pulled over it.
7-pin: Fit on the socket sealing and connect the socket according to the wiring plan.
13-pin: The socket holder is ready-made. Press the contact holder into the socket housing, place
the 3-pin housing on the microswitch and slide the rubber sealing onto the socket.
Affix the socket on the retaining plate with the provided screws, if necessany shorten.
ATTENTION!!!
The following points are especially to be noted when assembling the socket:
- The leads may not become caught, squeezed or damaged!
- The sealing elements must sit properly! Socket seals must sit on the insulating hose and not on
the individual leads!
- Lay the line set so there is no risk of abrasion or wear!
- Do not lay the lines too close to the exhaust system!
Lay the line set ends with the colours grey/black, black/white ... along the tail plate to the left tail
light. Pull out the plug from the tail light and connect up with that of the line set and secure. Plug
counterpart back into the tail light and secure.
Connect the cable socket of the brown earth wire to the vehicle's earthing point next to the left tail
light.
Lay the line set ends with the colours grey/red and black/green to the right tail light. Pull out the
plug from the tail light and connect up with that of the line set and secure. Plug counterpart back
into the tail light and secure.
13-pin: On the white 3-pin housing, the socket funktions "continuous positive and charging wire"
can be extended with an extra kit. This is available in automotive supply stores as Westfalia
item no. 300 025 300 113.
