General safety precautions

Requirements for the floor plate: If the stove will be
installed on a combustible floor, a robust, solid, non-
combustible layer should cover the floor beneath the stove.
This layer should cover an area of at least 300 mm in front
of the stove door, and at least 150 mm either side of the
opening.
Distance to firewall or unprotected wall: Contact your local
building authorities regarding restrictions and installation
requirements.
Always check your local codes in ensuring that your
installation is safe and legal.
When using your stove always follow these safety
precautions:
-
Never overfire the stove. This may cause serious
damage to the stove and the chimney.
-
Never use gasoline or similar liquids to start a fire in
this heater.
-
Avoid creating a "low pressure" condition in the room
where the stove is operating, because this could cause
poisonous gases to be drawn into the room.
-
Never extinguish the flames or ashes with water during
use as this may damage your stove and possibly cause
injury to yourself.
-
Ensure that when the fire is used with the door open, a
fire screen is placed in front of the fire. Also make sure
that furniture and other flammable materials do not
get too close to the stove.
-
Ash should be placed outdoors or be emptied in a place
where it will not represent a potential hazard.
-
Be careful in using your stove because it is very hot.
Installation of Jøtul F 8 TD
Check the stove to ensure that it is free of any damage in
transit before commencing with the installation.

Assembly prior to installation

The product is heavy. You will need help during assembly and
when the product is being placed into position.
Assembling the stove
1
After unpacking the stove - take out the items which
are packed inside. These items are four legs, an ash lip
and a plastic bag of screws for component assembly.
2 Lift up the top plate. In this way it is easier to move the
stove and to make the installation of the flue pipe more
secure.
3 Place the cardboard packaging on the floor and lay the
stove, with the help of an assistant, carefully down on
its side.
4 Unscrew the collar head screws in the stove bottom (M
6 x 20), position the leg in a corner and tighten the
screws firmly. Repeat this procedure for the remaining
three legs. (Fig. 3 A)
5 Install the ash lip by hooking it onto the front, just below
the door. Secure it by threading the 6 x 16mm collar
head screw provided into the ash lip screw hole (fig. 3
B).
6 Carefully tip the stove back up onto its legs.
7 Screw the door handle knob to the front door handle
(fig. 2 C).

Choose a Flue Exit Position

It is advisable to carry out a test assembly prior to making
a hole in the chimney. See fig. 1 for measures to wall made
of inflammable materials. Mark off hole for the flue pipe
(pay attention to any rise to the chimney).
From the factory the stove is delivered for the outlet to be
in the back. Fasten the flue outlet (fig. 4) from within with
three screws (fig. 6 A). When installing a top flue outlet,
loosen the traverse (fig. 5 A) and remove the top cover
plate. Fasten the cover on the back side and replace the
top plate.

Assembling of the flue

Drill a hole for the flue pipe. The distance from stove to
firewall/chimney shall be at least 100 mm. Always use a
chimney collar when connection to chimney. Use the
supplier´s recommended chimney collar when connecting
to an element chimney. Follow the supplier´s assembly
and usage instructions closely with regard to mortar/
furnace cement before starting to use the fireplace.
Ensure that the flue pipe never leans towards the chimney.
At a minimum it shall be horizontal, preferably a few
millimeters climb.
Note! A correct and sealed connection is very important
for the proper functioning of the product.
Be alert to the fact that it is particularly important that
connections have a certain flexibility. This is to prevent
setting of the house from leading to fissuration.
